It’s about to be that time where we have to start being crafty on how to balance our summer wear with the slowly changing temperatures. Dressing between seasons is one of those tricky skills that when done correctly looks fashionably cool and when done incorrectly is truly a hot and sticky mess. If you’ve got your eye on fall fashion try out these tips for how to integrate some of the next season’s looks into your wardrobe now.

1. Reshuffle The Basics

We practically live in shorts and tanks during summer but now’s the time to reshuffle our basics. Pair a tank with leggings instead of shorts, or inversely pair your shorts with a basic long sleeve cotton tee. Both of these two fall basics aren’t too heavy for when rotated with one breezier summer option. Try styling together a loungewear look like this pretty patterned Ultimate Tank Top with a sleek black legging. The detailing on this piece gives the outfit a stronger finish, and it’d look great paired with a moto jacket.

2. Get Creative With Outerwear

There’s no need to store our sundresses just yet but let’s update some of our summer looks with layering. Style a button up shirt over a sundress and tie it off above the navel, throw on a heavier vest with shorts, or try out a long duster over a shorter skirt. Reappropriating our warmer fall fashions to work right now can be convenient and stylish. The secret is in balancing proportions. Try this lightweight “Bali” Embroidered Tunic over a tank and slacks as one way to take a fashionable step towards fall.

3. Work From The Bottom Up

During the hottest times of year we want to wear lighter and looser clothing and for fall we can still embrace these choices too just with a twist. Work from the bottom up when you’re stumped on building a between-seasons outfit. Try wearing long loose layers like a maxi skirt paired with a bootie. The Ultimate Print Slim-Fit Maxi Skirt keeps the tempo of summer with a bright pop of color and the “Elizah” Woven Bootie with Heel gives the outfit an autumnal edge. Boyfriend-style jeans like the  “Glory” Slim Fit Boyfriend Jean are also great for pre-fall styling as they naturally have a relaxed fit that cools us down.
