Take a Scoop Out of Robert Irvine’s Apple Crisp Recipe

Robert Irvine's Apple Crisp Recipe

There’s something about baked apples that truly announces the arrival of the holidays. My Apple Crisp recipe is a simple dish that lets the apples do the talking, and keeps me from doing any because my mouth is full! But truly this dessert is one that warms my appetite during winter and is also fun to tweak for the brighter summer months. This recipe will make your house smell like a cinnamon-sugar dream and have your neighbors begging for a bite. Topped off with a scoop of ice cream, this can be a great holidays’ potluck piece.

Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients

6 Granny Smith Apples, cored and sliced

2 Tablespoons granulated sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon cornstarch

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup rolled oats

1/3 cup All-purpose flour

4 Tablespoons cold butter, diced

Non-stick cooking spray

1 pint Vanilla Ice Cream

Directions

  • Combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt and corn starch in a mixing bowl and toss to coat. Place the apple mixture in an 8×8 inch pan coated with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Using the same mixing bowl, mix together the brown sugar, oats and flour with your fingertips, blend in the butter pieces until small clumps form and the butter is well incorporated. This will take about 2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples and place the pan onto the low cooking rack, bake at 375 degrees without extender ring for 20-25 minutes until apples are tender.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream
