What a woman chooses to wear reveals a lot about her personality and I keep that in mind when I design. It is my goal not just to make pretty clothes, but to go deeper than that—to allow women to feel and look their best while being part of something more profound that resonates with creative wellbeing. I’ve been in the business of art, textiles and design for 30 years but my new collection at HSN is a first for me in a unique way. When designing new fashions for Sigrid Olsen Studio I wanted each piece to reflect my artistry and love of color while providing wardrobe pieces that not only wear well, but inspire each of us to be the best we can be—happy, healthy, and fully engaged in the vibrant act of living!
I was on the beaches of Tulum, Mexico when my very first pieces of the collection arrived and I was thrilled! I go here every January to host my annual Creative Wellbeing Retreat, kicking off the New Year with a small group of women doing art and yoga in a very special setting. (You can enter this HSN sweepstakes for a chance to join me on my next retreat in Florida!) It was the ideal backdrop to show the “beach to bistro” styles of my very first HSN collection. It was uncanny how the hues of the sea were reflected in the color of the clothes! My guests were just as excited as I to see the beautiful styles, especially this amazing Featherweight Poncho. It was the perfect item to dance around on the sand and imagine wearing at home any time! The turquoise print beach bag accented the look so well; I was delighted.
Also just gorgeous is the open stitch “Alessandra” Artisan Crochet Tunic in a soft Seafoam green that I threw over a skinny white pants and a tank. By the way, this Slim Seam Pant is the magical go-to style for anyone wanting to combine total comfort with effortless chic. Its nice slim leg with double side seam and tons of stretch will make you believe you could do anything from yoga to an elegant dinner; it feels appropriate for either.
Another perennial favorite for me has always been a print tunic, since I am an artist and textile designer. It is especially fun to know that I create the artwork for all of my prints, some with hand-carved rubber stamps that I have been making for years. I adore the hot pink colors of this “Shambala” Cotton Print Kurta with Embroidery and the artisan detailed embellishments around the neck and cuffs.
Check out the great shot below of me wearing this with my lovely collaborators, Anna Bernstein (left) and Kristin Joyce (right), who are modeling their favorites from the Sigrid Olsen Studio. Anna is wearing the taupe version of the Alessandra sweater (works well over a baby bump!) and the palm green Rustica Laundered Linen jacket is fabulous on Kristin.
