Everyone’s hair takes a beating – from the weather, poor nutrition, too much styling or using too many harsh hair treatments. The same way oils assist with skin care, there are certain oils that equally assist with our hair and scalp health. So depending on your hair or scalp issues, here are the essential oils to get your hair back on track.

1. For Dry Hair:

  • Avocado oil – extremely rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins this oil works well to hydrate the hair and scalp as well as reduce frizz.

  • Coconut oil – locks in moisture, a great oil to use as a hair mask. Simply apply to dry hair and let it sit for 20 minutes or so, then wash out and continue with your normal hair regime.

  • Sandalwood oil – is a great treatment for dry ends – it also adds fragrance to the hair!

2. For Oily Hair:

  • Lemongrass oil – as well as reducing oil on the skin and pore size Lemongrass oil also helps reduce oil at the roots of the hair.

  • Clary Sage oil – a key oil for hair growth and health.

3. To Add Shine:

  • Chamomile oil – soothes the scalp while also adding shine and softness to the hair.

  • Raspberry Seed oil – this is another oil which is high in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, this oil is great for overall hair health and shiny locks.

4. To Add Volume:

  • Rosemary oil – a great essential oil for many problems – for the hair this oil stimulates growth to boost volume, slows down premature hair loss and strengthens from the roots.

  • Geranium oil – this oil strengthens the hair and also has a rose like scent, so it will make your hair smell lovely!

5. For Scalp Health and dandruff:

  • Almond oil – due to its nourishing properties almond oil soothes and moisturises the scalp helping to treat dry itchy scalps as well as dandruff.

  • Peppermint oil – one of the most commonly used essential oils peppermint oil is a great treatment for dandruff as well as hair lice…!

  • Lavender oil – a great deep conditioning treatment for both the hair and scalp, lavender oil reduces dandruff as well as adding shine.

So once you’ve selected the oil you wish to use, how do you apply it for the maximum benefit for hair care? Some people suggest mixing a few drops with either your shampoo or conditioner. I would suggest using these oils as a treatment and mixing a few drops with 2 ounces of a carrier oil such as olive, jojoba or coconut.

What do you do to keep your hair healthy in summer?

Love,
