We’re halfway through the first month of 2015 but many of us still have items in our closet that haven’t seen the light of day in years. They’re the looks that we love in theory and don’t actually wear, but they keep our closet so full we feel guilty to buy what we do need. This year, it’s time to do away with what isn’t working and shop smart on new pieces that we’ll love. For inspiration on how to replace old pieces with new looks you’ll love to wear, check out mine and HSN Fashion Expert Dree Harper’s fashion resolutions below!
Colleen’s Fashion Resolutions
1) Brighten things up by adding more color
I love to wear black and neutrals but this year I plan to inject more color into my outfits!
2) Time for a closet purge
I try to do this every year, but I find I’m still holding on to old pieces that I haven’t worn in years. It’s time to donate the old items to make room for new, fresh choices.
Revamp my shoe wardrobe
This year I refuse to buy uncomfortable shoes. I have so many pretty shoes that I’ve bought over the years that I’ve only worn once or twice. This year I will be more selective about buying shoes that look good AND feel good!
4) Buy multi-season fabrics and colors
When choosing wardrobe pieces I want to pick colors and fabrics that will work for 3 or 4 seasons so I’ll get more mileage out of my wardrobe choices.
5) Get Inspired
I’ve found Pinterest to be a great source of inspiration – before I go shopping I plan to check my Pinterest board to remind me of the outfits I adore and for help putting my favorite looks together!
Dree’s Fashion Resolutions
1) Experiment with new silhouettes.
Sure, we know your pencil skirts and sheath dresses compliment your figure but branch out…try new proportions with an open mind. Once you’ve nailed a few new ones, start buying the pieces you need to continue building your dream wardrobe. One that makes you feel AMAZING!
2) Stock up and refresh your workhorses
Spend one day completely committed to shopping the pieces that you constantly work your daily looks around. Black leggings, loose tanks, cardigans, skinny jeans. Whatever has become somewhat of a uniform, make sure you have multiples so getting dressed in the morning is an easy thing.
3) Update your current wardrobe
. This could be in the way of altering hemlines, removing sleeves or reinventing an old piece with added embellishment. Look at each piece in your closet and see if the old can become new again!
4) Refresh your Accessories
A timeless dress, skirt or pair of trousers will go the mile but it’s not always the case with accessories. Bring in what’s relevant and strikes a chord with you. Replacing your tiny shoulder bag with a chic clutch or switching out your dainty earrings for a bold necklace are great ways to look modern and classy!
5) Purge and Cash In
Time to edit and be ruthless. Ill fitting, bad coloring or just plain sick of something in your closet? Make a pile and bring it to your local consignment store. Use the money of what sells towards purchasing pieces you love!
What is one article of clothing you’ll always keep and one that’s finally got to go?
