Beauty Trend Predictions for 2014

Although I’m a big believer in throwing out the “rules” and sticking to shades and textures that work for your skin, I still love to keep an eye on beauty trends. Staying current can sometimes feel like a chore, but with these helpful predictions playing with color and style when it comes to makeup is just plain fun.

Beauty Trend Predictions for 2014

Here are some of my trend predictions for 2014:

Hair

Lazy gals rejoice! The low ponytail has never been hotter. Adding a deep side part and clasping hair back at the nape of your neck using a metal cuff or barrette brings this style from lazy to luxe. If you prefer to let things loose, beachy, almost bedhead waves are going to be all the rage.

Rouge in Love Lipcolor - Miss CoquelicotLips

I loved all of the berry lips that we saw on the Spring runways. This shade is fresh and flattering and keeps everyone looking young. For the brave of heart, fiercely pigmented orange lips are on fire. (If you’re a bit afraid of orange, opt for a more user-friendly coral to interpret the trend in a softer way.)

Skin

The fresh face has been in for awhile, but luminizer is taking skin from fresh and barely there to absolutely glowing. Use a wet sponge to apply a liquid illuminator to the bridge of your nose, forehead, and cheeks to get the look. If you have a stick highlighter handy, swipe it across your eyelids or brow bones – even lips are fair game!

Eyes

Eye makeup is going bold with graphic liners in shades ranging from electric green to bright blue. If you’re not one to get crazy with your eye makeup, I also noted soft metallics and ethereal washes of pastel color in iridescent whites and pinks. And if you’re a fan of liquid liner, the cat eye is here to stay.

Nails

Intricate nail art has become more manageable with the addition of graphic details. Techniques like racing stripes and the moon manicure (an upside-down French) are a cinch to do yourself! In solids, metallics of all types are going to be big along with classic white for spring.

Did you have a favorite trend from 2013 that you hope sticks around? What are you looking forward to trying out in the new year?
