Many of us want longer and healthier nails but we’re missing some crucial steps in the manicure process that would give us that desired result. The secret to a better manicure is to treat our nails with the same time and attention as we give our faces. My five step manicure will teach you how to properly cleanse and nourish nails to encourage growth, strength, shine, and of course long-lasting polish. Your nails will be ready for their close up after this manicure!
Start a new manicure with a clean slate by removing any other polishes already on the nail. Use a piece of cotton and lightly saturate it in the Stripper Lacquer Remover, then press it on the nail, count to five, and pull it forward. If there is any polish remaining repeat the process.
Shape your nail to mirror the shape of your cuticles for your best look. Use a file to gently shape the nail. Make sure to never go back and forth with the file in a sawing motion which can cause damage to the nail.
After shaping your nail you can also use the Smooth Operator 4-Way Nail Buffer going from fabric 1 through 4 to exfoliate the top layer of the nail. This will help to remove ridges to reveal the silky foundation underneath. Exfoliation can be done on a weekly basis.
4. Cuticle Treatment
Use the Cuticle Remover to soften, hydrate and remove dead skin; then follow up with the Cuticle Pusher to push the cuticle back towards the knuckle. This will ensure that every nail has a uniform shape for your manicure. For any hanging skin that remains after these steps you can use the Cuticle Nipper to gently trim individual pieces. After this process follow up with the Cuticle Oil that will help to moisturize and heal the cuticles.
Now that the nail is properly prepared you can apply a basecoat. The basecoat will protect your nail, improve the wear, and help your polish adhere to the nail for much longer. The Genie in a Bottle Nail Tone Perfector is a brand new product that will neutralize the appearance of dull, stained or yellow nails while brightening the nail plate and whitening the nail tips. Use it as a basecoat before applying a polish to unify the nail plate or wear it alone for a perfected natural nail look.
When applying a polish start at ? on an inch away from the cuticle and pull the brush straight down the center to the tip. Repeat this process on each side of the nail, exerting a little more pressure on the brush to let the bristles fan out. Finish every finger by taking the tip of your brush and swiping the polish against the tip of the nail. The final step is a top coat like the Addicted to Speed Nail Lacquer that will set your polish and provide shine.
