RJ Graziano Shares 5 Fashion Tips When On a Budget

Recently I sat down with RJ Graziano to talk about Spring Fashion and we went quickly into a much bigger picture of timeless style.  RJ’s work has probably been in more magazines than any super model or celebrity. His jewelry designs have launched more than one global trend (remember when the material girl wore those crosses in her video?)

1. Don’t rest on your laurels

The world changes and we need to change too. Nothing crazy – but if you are still wearing the same lipstick, big earrings and hairstyle from 20 years ago, it is time for an update. Take a good look neck up and think about what has stayed with you because it works and what has stayed because it worked “then”. You looked great with those earrings when they balanced out huge shoulder pads –now not so much.

2. Sleek works – think about the Jackie’s, Audrey’s and Grace’s of the world

Their style had no expiration date. The best way to get that looks is with wardrobe status essentials: the right jewelry, handbag, shoes and jeans. Look to the icons for inspiration.

Specialize in wardrobe status essentials and you will save money because you won’t have to rebuy every season or year. Chunky necklaces, classic links, high polished and textured work for all ages and stages of a woman’s fashion evolution. An arm full of bangles and a stack of band rings always work.

4. Stay away from the gimmicks

Please no big bows on your clothes, avoid those too big close-to-the-ear earrings they date you. Avoid the temptation of too color specific in your jewelry – Gold and Silver tones work with taupe, red, clean colors, prints and hot colors vs. if you buy a red necklace it only goes so far. If you can afford the red necklace go for it, but this is about not having your credit card burst into flames.

5. A good haircut is essential

You don’t need to spend a fortune but you have the power to stay current by going to a really good hair stylist even if it is just a few times. After the first couple of visits go to a more budget-friendly salon and have them follow the lines of your original cut. A good hair day can be the difference between passé and posh.
