Welcome

Submitted by Jay King on July 8, 2009 – 1:36 PM101 Comments

Welcome to my first blog

I am really happy to take this opportunity to touch base with you. This has been a long time dream of mine to have a way to communicate directly. I will be updating my blog before every show or when I have a wonderful trip or adventure that I just can’t wait to share with you.

This year seems to be screaming by. It’s funny when I was younger, time just seemed to stand still at times, and I wanted to be older, so I could experience more in life. Now that I am older, time seems to be rushing by and I am worried I don’t be able to see it all. There is an upside to time passing quickly – it takes several months to take an idea to a finished product, and I am always so excited to share it with you – the anticipation is painful at times, so since time passes quickly, before I know it I am on air and can share not only my latest creations, but also the story about how I designed it or the adventure of how I found the stone.

This month is a big travel month for me. I’m taking a two week trip across the polar ice cap and then south into Asia. This month I’ll travel all over Asia, this is always interesting, and one of the many trips to discover new “Mine Finds”, it gives me a chance to hook up with miners from around the world, as well as get a fresh look at color combinations and another culture’s interpretations on art and beauty. I will meet with all of my many foreign vendors and get to see everything from fresh water pearls to all the different shapes and colors of coral.

I have always enjoyed traveling, and the interesting cultures that you get exposed to. I will take this opportunity to film some of the unusual things and share them with you first hand. I will also be taking still pictures that you will see on an upcoming entry.

I am really excited about my upcoming visit. I have so many new and different designs to share. I have some unique combinations of stones and two great new concepts that will be debuting in the July show. Make sure to tune in so you can be one of the first to see them.

Please check in often and feel free to write me below – please keep in mind that when I am out exploring and discovering new finds…they don’t always have internet access, so it may take me a while to write you back or answer your questions – but rest assured I will do it when I return. Have a wonderful July – see you before you know it.

Safe travels……Jay

Great Idea, the only thing I could possibly do is find some kind of new finding, I’ll check it out. J

Hi I grew up in Farmington, NM. I was skiing Durango when it was a single lift. Right now I don’t have any, but I am always doing new crosses .J

Carol CA
This comes from the South China Sea, this is its natural color, but its getting harder to come by. J

CA
This is a great point. Just so that you know our goal is a quality product. The problem is how it is handled after it leaves our hands. I will always stand behind my designs 100% and repair anything I can This was one reason for the blog. We manufacture all over the world, example, all our silver comes from the country-regionUS , but we acquire rough and manufacture in several countries. I am not aware of anyone who doesn’t do the same. If the silver is done in the country-regionUS then the stone or rough materials come from other countries. It’s a global economy. J

Laura AR
Thanks, I love triple C I hope you tell more people about us. J

Becky IN
I can tell you shop early for Christmas. Great idea. J

Becky IN
I have Malachite from Africa coming soon, its very hard to get the good rough and its very expensive. J

Linda N H
Thank you so much. J

Laura OH
Thanks its never too late to start making jewelry. J

Elaine MI
I would love to do this. Maybe some day. I have lots of new magnetic designs coming up. J

Kat KS
Thanks for the kind words. I was born in Eureka, KS. J

Deanna OK
Its Anhui turquoise. A variety they call RED SKIN, because of how it looks……..It comes out looking like red balls when mined. J

Susan IL
Funny I am working on that now. Less than 5% of the Amber rough I get is this color. We will have it some time down the road. J

Martha MI
I buy direct from the mines in most cases. It depends on where you are going. You might want to read up a bit on Opals before you go. Knowledge is power, when buying. J

HOWDY JAY. I LOVE YOUR BEAUTIFUL JEWELRY. IT IS TRUE PURE ART. I WAS WONDERING HOWEVER, THE OLDER I GET THE SMALLER I WANT MY JEWELRY, I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD PLEASE OFFER SOME SMALLER NECKLACES AND BRACELETS AND EARINGS. YOU COULD EVEN USE YOUR LEFT OVER STONES TO SAVE ANY WASTE. THEY WOULD ALSO BE MORE AFFORDABLE FOR ME. I LOVE FEATHERS AND EAGLES. I HAVE NATIVE AMERICAN BLOOD AND WOULD LOVE SMALLER LESS STRANDS.JUST ONE STRAND OF TURQ WITH SILVER WOULD BE GREAT. THANK U 4 CONSIDERING

  • Cheer888 says:

Jay, Would it be possible to sell the cross pendant that is on the sleeping beauty necklace separately? I was hoping that if you sold them separately it might be more affordable. I love the cross and would love to have it but the price it is a little out of my budget, or I would purchase both the necklace and pendant without hesitation. By breaking them up I might be able to afford the cross now and get the necklace later. Thanks for bringing such beautiful and unique pieces!!!

  • Mike K., NY says:

Thank you for finally making jewlery for men. I ordered the sterling silver mens ring 525-468. Can you tell me what mine the turquois comes from? It was never mentioned in the presentation. Thanks again.

  • Valerie, IL says:

I like your jewelry and was wondering if you will be designing any longer necklaces (30 – 36 inches)with smaller beads? I am petite and am more comfortable with the smaller beads and the longer necklaces are very popular right now. Looking forward to your future shows. Thanks

  • Don, MD says:

Good afternoon, I have a rock delimma. I have an old piece of Stactite, with gorgeous rings, and what appears to a quartz like center. I am looking to take cross sections for polishing and hanging in a sun window, I can envision a beatiful color display as the result. My problem is what do I use to take fine, cross sections?

If at all possible, I would love to have one of yor turquoise bowls. I know that they are limited, but please add my name to your list.

    Thank you,

  • Darla, MO says:

I bought the Hexagonal shaped Anhui 18 1/2 necklace..LOVE IT…Please Jay make rings and bracelets to go with all your sets…and earrings. Especially the rings. I want a ring to match my neacklace in a square stone.

  • Eleanor, CA says:

Have always loved your jewelry but was looking at a particular ring this AM & saw that it was Made in China. I cannot believe that with the economy of our country that everyone is sending jobs that could be done here in this country to third world countries. I will not be purchasing this ring nor anything else you have that is Made In China. I am really disappointed in you Jay.

  • Hi Jay,

Thank you for all of your beautiful jewelry creations. I saw a necklace of yours on the HSN web page at the top with your photo. It is a brown suede with a green turquoise stone that took my breath away. Is there any chance that you will be creating more of these? I have been looking for this exact type of necklace and it is simply the most beautiful one that I have ever seen. Appreciate your consideration. Make it a GREAT day!

  • CDM, AZ says:

I heard on one of your shows that you are going to bring in some bowls. I just want to know when that might be because I do not want to miss that show.

  • Janice, NM says:

There is a home cooked meal waiting for you in Santa Fe any time you are in the area! I am saving for my gem bowls….Oct. 14th. Almost as excited about the bowls as I am about my jewelry. Thanks Jay for making a wide variety of styles. I am petite and need smaller pieces. Thanks to you and your team, my collection of Jay King pieces would fill your old Desert Rose show room! I have to work Oct.14th so I hope I can order the bowls on line before the actual show as I know they will sell out

Hi Jay, I’ve been trying to contact you for quite some time(HSN said they had no info).I have a neck.that I bought a while back and unfort.have not been able to wear for quite some time(missing stone in pendant). It is the citine strand neck.with pear shaped peridot and citrine pendant. One of the round peridot beads fell out and cannot be worn w/o.Is there anyway i could get a replacement peridot bead and then maybe i could glue it in?I would be happy to pay for the bead.

  • Cindi, PA says:

Jay, Love your products. A girl could go broke when you come on. I’m addicted, but I feel as though you are an investment, (as well as the jewelry}. I am wondering if you could make earrings to match the coral necklace that HSN has. I should have bought a bracelet and had earrings made for me. Take care on your journies, I worry. God Bless.

  • Yvette, CA says:

Two issues, Jay. Everytime I click on the Jay King picture on the HSN site and try to put Jay in the check out basket, he gets out. How do I get him to stay in the basket? How do I setup Auto Ship so I can have a delivery of Jay King every month and how is shipping calculated – not that he isn’t worth his weight in platnium!

  • lois, IL says:

thank-you jay-loved the items on with colleen’s favorite hosts picks…the necklace was so great, and i love the stories that come along with your items you bring to us..so-thank-you..keep-up the good work…looking forward to your next visit..

  • Jane, FL says:

Hi Jay! What is the difference between the typical transleucent purple Flourite and the ‘Purple Flourite Root’ stones found in your recent necklace and pendant? When I googled ‘Flourite Root’, a brown Root Beer colored transleucent Flourite was shown, not the purple stone found in your necklace. Curious girlie rock hound wantabe.

  • Liz, PA says:

I received the kamamba jasper and amethyst ring for my birthday March 30,2009 Ring was only worn several times and on July 18,2009 the jasper stone fell out & lost. On contacting HSN customer service,I was informed the purchase was more than 30 days ago so they could do nothing about it. I was told you only paid $59.95 for the ring so what do you expect. Do you MR. King stand by the quality of your jewelery longer than the 30 day? Thank you for any help in this matter.

  • Clara, TX says:

I love the look of your natural stone jewelry, but the wide bands on the rings won’t fit my arthritic hands even in a size 12. Can you make some with 1/8th-inch-wide bands in size 12? Also, I need a pendant chain about 24 inches long. I’m sure there are plenty of other full-figured women who would love your pendants but can’t use the 17- and 18-inch bead strands they come with. Please help.

  • Ellen, NC says:

Your jewelry is such a pleasure to wear. Like a previous writer, I am interested in a classic style blue turquoise ring. My first piece of one of your designs was a beaded necklace with an oval pendant with ailver bale. The beads were both round and long. The stones color is gray, in some lights has a slight taupe cast. The clasp is a hook. Would it be possible for you to identify the stone for me? Looking forward to more stories and jewelry.

  • Joanie, CA says:

Hi Jay….Gosh, your jewelry is outstanding and beautiful…I have over 200 pieces of your things and everytime I wear it I get so many compliments on it…Just tell them, it’s from Jay King,my personal designer…lol…oh well, it’s true…Thanks so much for everything you have brought us and will be bringing to us..I just today received my newest piece, the Rainbow Calsilica Sterling Silver ring..just beautiful..will go with so many of my things…Can’t wait to see you on the 10th.Bye.

  • Virginia, OK says:

I have always been fond of Turquoise Jewelry since I was born in Tucson,
AZ. I have purchased many of your jewelry items especially the necklaces. I have one
request. Could you make some of your necklaces at least 20 inches long? Most of the
necklaces are l7 or l8 inches which are too short even with the extender. They need
to be longer for my use. Keep bringing us your beautiful Indian Turquoise Jewelry.

  • Anonymous says:

    Jay;
I was wondering if you will be able to bring back the Porphery necklace, I have the ring and the earings and have been on the wait list for the necklace twice to no avail. I love all your jewelry, I must have 30 or more of your pieces. Safe travels! Maria

  • Liz, TX says:

Thrilled to hear from you, bless your heart. Jay I love it all. My favorite things are anything with pumpkin beads(green earrings turqoise),My ideas more matching sets, stars in any color maybe a picture jasper cross to show off the beauty of the stone like the rodinite one. and calsilica in a flatter form. Bring back the dumbells!
