twiggy LONDON June Collection
In 1966, Twiggy burst onto the fashion scene as the world’s first supermodel. With her waif-like figure, boyish hairstyle and striking lashes, she created an image that defined an era, earning her idol status among millions of teenage girls of the ’60s revolution. By the 1970s she combined her modeling career with acting, singing and dancing. She won 2 Golden Globes for her first film The Boyfriend and a Tony nomination for her performance in the hit Broadway musical My One And Only in 1983. Over the last 30 years she has appeared in numerous films and TV shows in the UK and America, most recently as a judge on America’s Next Top Model. Today, she remains deeply connected to her fashion roots and London home. We sat down to learn about her HSN premiere and the twiggy LONDON June collection.
So, we’ve got to know: How was your first HSN TV experience?
It was extraordinary, actually. I was very, very excited. Quite a bit nervous, because I’ve never done it before, you know. I was on with Colleen (Lopez) and Bobbi Ray (Carter), and they were absolutely amazing and guided me through. It was lovely having those two hosts, who are so experienced, who really know how it works.
After about 15 minutes, I was having such good fun. I said it was like getting on the freight train, like a roller coaster, really. One you’re on, you don’t want to get off. It was really exciting.
Were you able to speak to any customers live on the air?
Yes, absolutely. It was smashing talking to people who were calling in – really very exciting. They were all lovely. One lady called from Texas, and I could tell she had a very English accent, and not a Texas accent. As it turned out, we’d played netball (a popular women’s sport similar to basketball) when we were 14. Imagine that!
So, you were really nervous?
I think one always has a little bit of nerves. I think the adrenaline is good, energy is important. Next time, I won’t feel as apprehensive about what’s going to happen. Now, I’ve experienced those three (airings) and have seen how it all happens.
But I have to say, HSN made me feel very secure. I loved my set, and the models were fabulous. Coming back and knowing that’s all coming into place makes you feel very secure. I can’t wait till the next visit – you’ll have to lock me out!
So, what can you tell us about June’s collection?
I’m very excited. We’re bringing in some lovely new things: great new sunglasses, a sun watch in bright colors, fun sandals, beautiful silk shirts, lots of sequiny things. It’s nice to sparkle. We like a bit of twinkle!
And still comfortable, right?
I think comfort is paramount. We all like to be fashionable, but we don’t like to be uncomfortable. I think you learn that as you age. When you’re younger, you kind of suffer for fashion. But fashion can be, and should be, comfortable.
The twiggy LONDON Patent Union Tote, your debut Today’s Special, was a huge hit. Were you surprised?
It was such a nice thing to kick us off. I wanted to do the Union Jack because it said London. I’m so glad people responded to it. Wonderful.

I am wondering how your sizes are compared to a 14 or 16 in your maxie dress and belt sizes. I loved you then and still do now. Keep up the good job you are doing.

I am so sorry – the red, white and blue bag sold out so fast! I do have a brand new, FABULOUS Union Jack bag coming in for my November visit. Its different than the first one – but really cool. It will be here for my November 19th visit.
Hope you will be able to tune in!
Twiggy you have been an inspiration for all of us that have been told you will not last, you do not fit the mold. You paved the way for everyone to be comfortable in their own skin no matter their size. Speaking of size;)I see that your going to be doing a petite line. Could you please do high waist jeans? That do not go into our rib cage. Since I am on the wish train here. Maybe in shades of blue with pink, yellow, purple stripes similar to your engineer jeans, w/hidden pockets? Pretty please.
I am afraid that High Waist jeans are not in the pipeline at the moment but my signature jeans are not cut too low. They are really comfortable and look great, maybe you should try them.
I love mine!
Twiggy – you Rock!
Twiggy, I remember you from 1966.. and the ‘mod’ look that took over America. I recall the ‘painted on’ eyelashed look, and the deep banged short hair-do you started, with the heavy eyeliner. You were such a sensation! Inspired by us all and the ‘british invasion’ of music was definitely contributary. I ordered your riding pants, and studded boots (on waitlist). What a perfect boot! I hope it fits my narrow foot. OH, June 16th is my birthday. (Age notwithstanding…!) Or was my birthday. LoL!
I hope you like the riding pants and studded boots as much as I do. They are a great pairing. I love to wear my boots a little slouchy over the riding pants.
I hope you had fun shopping with me on your Birthday. Happy Belated!!
I have those great red suede boots…I would LOVE to see a purse made out of suede to match!!!!!!!!
The red boots are gorgeous! I am working on my spring 2011 collection now and I am working on a great suede bag!
Your high-heeled shoes with the peep-toe are the most comfortable, best fitting shoes I’ve had in years. I’ve paid soooooo much more for so little value in the past. Can’t wait to see what you will bring us in the fall. Of course, you will repeat the military jacket, but what else???????
Hello!
Just back in the states for my show this weekend. I have a brand new collection that includes some gorgeous velvet pieces as well as a tuxedo! Perfect for upcoming Holiday parties.
I am on this weekend, hope you can tune in!
Twiggy,
I must tell you, I am 50 and I remember you when you first started out in the business. Durring your modeling years when you got your name, “TWIGGY”. You have aged beautifully. In fact I can’t believe as the older you get the more beautiful you get literaly. You have great genes. I wish I could say the same for me.
To the Twigster:
You always were and you always will be THE goddess of the fashion world to me. You’re like 60 going on 16! I wish you would hit the runways again. You add class to anything you do. You don’t just model or show the clothes, you “live” the clothing. Love ya, luv!
Good day! Wanted to let you know Twiggy, your’re clothing and bags are fun and cute..cute. I can’t get over the union bag that I bought from you in the navy,as an TSV. I receive so many compliments from strangers, I’m floored because usually if it’s not an expensive bag nobody cares to look. Comes to show expensive is not always the best, and yours is the best. I also just purchased your sneakers &jeans this past week. Can’t wait to try them on. Thxs Twiggy to you and your’re team. Excelente!!
Twiggy…Love..Love..Love your clothes..the upbeat and current styles, the comfort and the colors. The Union Jack bag was a must having lived in England in the 60’s, seeing the Beatles before USA, shopping at Selfridges and Marks & Spencers,(London..where I got the shopping bug)and Best of all growing up with your influence of fashion. Thank you for being you!!and bringing your style to HSN. Mom and I cannot wait for our 4 prs of sneekers to arrive!!
Twiggy,
So glad you are still hanging around with us. (62) Just wanted to know if you had ever thought of making a wedge heel with the sneaker toe? I had a pair in the 70/80’s and they were so wonderful to wear, so comfortable and with your satin material, they would be hot, hot, hot! Don’t think wedge heels ever go out of style. The tread was the same as the sneaker. I would love to find some like those with sling back heel and sneaker lace up front. Awesome. Hope to see them in future? Donna
Helloo Twiggy… I bought the hot pink satin and velvet sneakers.. love the look, can’t wait to get them.. I would also , if possible, to know if your mfg. co. can make silk socks to match the shoe.. I think that would be so cool.
Twiggy, I love your things (though the dresses are all too short for me). I love the tennis shoes but am concerned about the fabric. Is there a way to spray or treat the satin so it won’t stain if it gets wet? I wouldn’t go wading in them but I do live in a wet climate (but so is England). Also, will you make replacement shoestrings available? I don’t think I could go just anywhere to buy velvet shoe strings. Look forward to seeing what you will do next.
I’m really looking forward to watching June 16th. I love the look of the silk fashions that will be coming up. However, is there any way to get more of the fabrics used to be washing machine and dryer friendly? I love the things I’ve bought in the last two months but it makes washing day a more difficult chore.
