Celebrate Beautiful You: Beauty & Health Tips from Colleen Lopez

Submitted by Colleen Lopez on December 17, 2010 – 11:13 AM75 Comments

Wow – What a year – It’s hard to believe we’re getting ready to say goodbye to 2010….The months have flown by!

For my final blog of the year, I wanted to take a moment to answer some of the questions I get asked most often about beauty and weight loss. I’ve always said I’m a “late bloomer” – and through LOTS of trial an error I have a few tips and tricks that have been working for me that may come in handy for you in the new year!

I also wanted to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued love and support. I feel connected to you, our viewers, in so many ways. We all want to feel great, look our best, and live our lives with passion!

Here’s wishing you a Holiday Season and New Year filled with joy, health, love, happiness and dreams coming true!

Many Blessings to you and yours,
Colleen

Beauty Talk
We sell so many great beauty products on HSN, it’s temping to want to try them all!! Many of you had heard me say, that I’m a big “chicken” so needles and injectables are not part of my beauty routine (pain is not an option for me!). So here are the products I use and other tips for good skin care…

1. Stay out of the sun. Wear a hat, big sunglasses and lots of sunscreen – nothing ages us faster than the sun’s harmful rays.

2. Drink water – I drink a minimum of 7 bottles (16 oz each) a day. I believe staying hydrated keeps the skin glowing.

3. Vitamins – I use both Essential Omega 3 and Health Hair Skin and Nails by Andrew Lessman….I love my vitamins!!

4. Morning SKin Care Routine

and Lancome Renergie Lift Volumentry Eye Cream
Wei East Eyes Alive (for days when I wake up with puffy eyes!)

5. Evening Skin Care Routine

6. Weekly at home facial – I use both Serious Skin Care C Extreme Results and Ole Henrickson Facial 3 Little Wonders.

Weight Control
Losing weight is a constant battle for many of us – especially this time of the year!! Lately I’ve been finding some success thanks to some changes I’ve made in my diet. My best piece of advice is to “be easy on yourself”. Don’t set lofty goals….Just take one day at a time and try to make healthier choices.

1. Count Calories. I know this is boring – but it works. I try to keep my calories under 1,500 a day. I still can eat things I love, but in smaller amounts!

Andrew Lessman Secure Meal Replacement

2. Don’t eat after 7:00 pm. This is a tip Jennifer Flavin Stallone gave me. She is so slender and keeps her gorgeous figure year in and year out. She said she doesn’t eat a big dinner – ever.
I started eating my big meal at lunch time (or mid afternoon) and I no longer have a big meal in the evening. If we go out to dinner (and it’s after 7:00) I order something very light (salad or something off the appetizer menu). I also use Andrew Lessman’s Secure Meal Replacements – Great for breakfast and when you have a craving for something sweet!

3. Apple Cider Vinegar. Another tip from Jennifer….I put one Tablespoon in a glass of water and sip it. It helps with appetite and also has many other health and cleansing benefits!

4. Skinny Cow. Have you heard of Skinny Cow Ice Cream Treats? They are low in calories and
delicious! I keep them in the freezer so If it’s later in the evening and I feel like a treat (my favorite is ice cream!) – I have a Skinny Cow – Yummy and guilt free!

5. Exercise. Find something you enjoy – walking, treadmillsyoga, dancing around the house….it doesn’t matter what we do as long as we get moving! I try to get 30 minutes a day (love my Malibu Pilates Chair!).

The most important thing we should all remember is that we’re all beautiful in our own special way! I truly believe that beauty comes from within – Celebrate the beautiful person you are everyday – and keep on shining in 2011!

Love,

Colleen

  • You truly look fantastic. I have a question for you. Have you changed your beauty regimen now? There is so much talk about peptides, and retinol, and vitamin this and hydroxatone this. What do you use nowadays?

Colleen, You rock! I love watching you…and one of your items never mentioned is what nail product you use. I’d love to know what the shade of pale pink is that you wear. You had it on the night of August 27th with Jay King Finds. I LOVE IT, AND I MUST HAVE IT! Is it something HSN sells? It is gorgeous and looks so professional and clean.

Please let me know…it is killing me. I called Customer Service and they did not have the information.

    Thank you,

    Toni

    Colleen,
I have been watching for years and have heard you recently state that you use an expensive hand cream. I have seen a difference in your hands in the past few years. What are you using that is making this great difference? I am almost 50 but my hands are aging faster than the rest of my body so any input would be helfpul. Thanks!

    Hi Colleen!

I just want to let you know that you are my all time favorite show host! I have been watching you with my mom for over 15 years…love, love you! We both talk about the fact that you’ve become even more beautiful with age! Thank you for sharing some of your weight loss secrets. I hope I can lose weight by following some of those tips.

Have a blessed day and an incredible year!

Hi Colleen, I have lots of jewelry from HSN and your “favorite things”. My issue is that almost all tops on HSN are so fancy that most necklaces don’t work. I would like to see “V” neck tops, not made of tee shirt material, close fittingand that have some interest around midriff. A knit top of yours that is shirred front. I am a 1X but I feel so great in it and get tons of compliments. I am retired so not a suit/blouse wearer. How about some great V neck tops in your next line?

  • Oh Goody! I ,too, am interested in getting several flat boxes without a divider! And please – more black cuff boxes – asap! I dearly love all of your boxes and have around 25 of them!!! Have you thought about a large shelf, like piece of furniture large, for displaying them in closets? That would be heavenly! Thanks for producing products that make our lives easier and more fun! Love the jewelry, clothing, etc – but love watching you most of all! You are so elegant and lovely!

Colleen, I ordered your 24 ct Checkerboard citrine and topaz ring and wanted to tell you why I returned it. The inside of the ring was not finished at all. I wish that you would put your foot down and tell you money guys that we WILL pay more for a piece that is finished off properly. Seems like such a waste of beautiful stones to mount them in such cheap, nasty , settings. Such a waste. Terrel

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi Terrel,
I’m sorry you were unhappy with the quality of the setting of the Citrine ring.
I was very happy when I read the reviews on this ring – it is a Customer Pick and almost every review was a perfect 5 star rating. Many were very pleased with this purchase, but I understand we’re all different. I will pass on your comments to my buyer and our manufacturer.
Thank you for watching and shopping with us.
      Colleen

  • Ofelia254 says:

Collen, I recently recieved a letter from HSN letting me know the CL 35.72 ct Amethyest & Topaz ring was not genuine stones as represented. Could you please let me know which of the stones are simulated please. Thank You.

  • tchr2nd says:

    Colleen,
Please bring back your boot cut jeans that you said you copied from a $200.00 pair. I absolutely love them. I have many pairs. They are just the right amount of denim to hold you in. The waist is not to high nor to low. They are fabulous….Out of all my jeans, I constantly pick these to wear!!!! Also crop jeans out of the same denim would be nice.

  • Hi Colleen. Would you please consider doing a large-cuff-only prestige box, for large cuffs? The other one just doesn’t work for my Sajen, Royal Bali and other large, hefty bracelets. I need more depth and larger bars, maybe with a soft cover on them to allow for different diameter cuffs. Looking forward to your 2011 shows!

  • Ibelle says:

    Hello Colleen!
I really enjoy watching you and everything you bring to HSN.
Also, I was wondering if you’d ever consider bringing Petra Meiren’s jewelry to HSN?
Keep up the good work and happy New Year! Isabelle

  • mattthecat27 says:

You had mentioned how you clean fake fur coats. Could you please write on how you clean fake fur coats to save money? Thank you. I put one of mine in one of those dryer bags with a cleaner but I am a little afraid to do that with my Terry Lewis Lavender Fake Fur Coat. Thank you. I hope you have a wonderful New Year filled with peace and love.

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi Matthecat,
I have not ever cleaned a faux fur at home….I take my faux fur to the dry cleaners.
You can try a damp cloth and a clean brush to brush your fur to fluff it up. You can also try baby wipes for spot cleaning. I have heard of people using corn meal to clean faux fur at home by putting the fur in an airtight container, covering with dry corn meal, and shaking gently for several minutes (and shake all corn meal off and brush gently). I haven’t tried it, but it may be worth a try!

  • Shadtrain says:

    Hi Colleen,

Love your show, your energy and your sense of humor. Thanks for the tips; here in Colorado we have to drink a lot of water because it is so dry. Anyway, I am inquiring as to whether you intend to bring back the amazing stunning (not enough adjectives) Morganite ring designed by your son? And if it is coming back, when will it be? I don’t want to miss out again.

    Thanks!!!

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi Shadtrain!
Thank you so much for your kind message! My son is working on sourcing more stones to make more Morganite rings….I’m keeping my fingers crossed as we’ve had so many requests for it! We are heading to Tucson for the big Gem Show in February….we’re hoping to find lots of new treasures! Take care and stay in touch!

Can you make a prestige box for watches?

Love the boxes I have but need one for my many watches.

    Thanks….

  • rlp77 says:

Hi Colleen, You are my favorite host on HSN. You and Andrew crack me up. :)

Your hair always looks so pretty. I know you use Andrew’s HS&N but what hair products do you use if you don’t mind me asking.

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi rip!
Thanks you for your nice message!
For hair I always look for shampoo that says “smooth” and “shine”. I like Pantene, Herbal Essences and others….I like to change it up. I always use a deep conditioner and work it into the ends. I always rinse my hair with cold water – really helps with shine. I don’t use styling product on my hair (I find it weighs it down and makes it look dull). I avoid using high heat when blow drying (with a large, natural bristle brush). Hope this helps xo

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi Addicted!
Take a look at my answer above about hair products. I change my shampoo all the time – I like shampoos and conditioners that say “shine and smooth”…..I’m challenged with frizzy hair! Along with the hair comments I left above for Rip, I also use a straightening iron – but I keep in on the lowest setting as to not fry my ends. I do not shampoo my hair every day – usually every other day….My hair stays in better condition when I don’t shampoo too often. Hope this helps!

  • turtlewood says:

Hi Colleen, Your a wonderful person and so beautiful. I have a request, if I may. I would like to try more of your beauty regimens, but I can’t, because of some health issues, doctors tell me to stay away from of course Parabens and also phenoxyethanol.
These things are bad, for me any way. Things are changing, I know.
Could use pass this to manufactures, so I can try different products. I will be 48 this month, I don’t feel so good with the way
my skin looks! Thanks SO MUCH

  • kitty68 says:

    Hi Colleen,
Can you ask Andew Lessman to make vitamins for pets please?

    Thanks

    • ColleenLopez says:

      Hi Kitty,
I believe Andrew has a vitamin for animals available – you may want to check out his website Yourvitamins.com. I will also be sure to pass on your request to see if we can offer them on HSN! Hope you can tune in on Thurs. night at 11:00 pm eastern to see the kickoff to Andrew’s first visit of the New Year!
      Best, Colleen

      • mome416 says:

Colleen, I seem to remember you saying that when you take Andrew’s CoQ10 you take it with a little fat, as per Andrew’s instructions, but I thought you mentioned a supplement like fish or flax oil caps that you use as the small amount of fat. Could you clarify that for me?
        Thanks, mome416

    Aloha Colleen,
Always enjoy your presentations… and your special selections. i have several of your jewelry boxes and have a suggestion: a multi-drawer box… about the size of the one that has two drawers on the side and one on the bottom.. but about 4 or 5 drawers in the front with a top opening too. i just have so many pieces and don’t like to keep switching the box from one side to the other. hope you understand what i am describing. thanks so much. have a wonderful 2011. mahalo.

  • JSHOPPER says:

    Colleen,
Just wanted to say thanks for offering that beautiful champagne diamond heart ring at Christmas. My gosh is it ever beautiful. I am like you in the fact that I like big and different rings. I have never seen anything so beautiful. I am so glad I purchased it. I can’t stop staring at all the diamonds in all the places in the ring. Anyway, have a great New Year and thanks for all the tips.

  • DrDi says:

Happy and blessed New Year to you and all bloggers here!
I LOVE watching you! Thank goodness for you –
Now then, I have a couple of your original necklace standing two sided jewelry boxes, and they are way full with Jay King necklaces.
HELP! Your current boxes are too small for his stuff (I bought several). Any chance of coming back with these?
Keep laughing, esp with Suzanne, I will keep watching!

  • Hi Colleen
Ditto on all the wonderful comments already said! I have been watching you for 25 years! Really! Way back then, I bought 2 lamps that I still have and are still beautiful. My parents bought a grandfather clock that still runs and is still beautiful. I also bought 3 shadow boxes (for the wall), and they are still beautiful. Now for my question. Have you ever looked into products by “Obey Your Body?” I use their hand creams and they are wonderful. God Bless!
