Ditch Your Winter Wear & Spring Into Dresses: The Dress Shop

Submitted by Lauren Wilner on February 15, 2012 – 10:41 AM24 Comments

Are you ready to ditch the sweaters in favor of spring dresses? I am!

We are so excited to be launching our Ultimate Trunk Show: Spring Fashion series, presented by Elle this year. We are even more excited because this year we are launching a whole new shopping experience on HSN.com – our Dress Shop!

blog3 Ditch Your Winter Wear & Spring Into Dresses: The Dress Shop

We love dresses for every season, but this spring we decided that our must-have item for every woman, shape and size is a dress! The beautiful thing about a dress is that it’s one piece that you can throw on without having to think about anything, and you are all set. So, we searched and worked with all of our designers, including many new designers to bring you the perfect, curated assortment of spring dresses.

blog1 Ditch Your Winter Wear & Spring Into Dresses: The Dress Shop

The shop officially launches on February 20th and will bring you new styles each and every week – be sure to keep checking back.

Something that makes our dress shop unique and fun to shop is that we did the work for you (you’re welcome!) We classified dress styles by shape and silhouette, and even when to wear the dresses – although I think you can wear almost any style day or night with the right accessories! We also created a fun personality quiz. Based on a few fun questions about your personal style, we narrowed down the assortment of dresses even more. We made it fool proof to find your perfect dress for the season!

So what looks good on you? For me, I am all about print and pattern this season. I think it looks so fresh and new, and exciting for spring! Not to mention, a bold print hides any lumps and bumps. For my shape, I don’t love form fitting styles, so I will lean more towards A-line or shift style dresses.

What is your favorite silhouette? Leave me a message below so we can be sure to have your favorites covered this spring season!

Hello, I’m a 38c, 41,45. I have problem getting the correct size in some of your dresses. Your system is telling me to order XL and when I get them there to big; yes I’m larger in the middle. For the most part I like your dresses but afaired to order them because I’m not sure which size to order. I’m 5′4 and over 50, I don’t want dresses that make me look like I’m a teenage and I don’t want dresses that make me look like a grandmother. So can you please tell me which style I should order.

I have sent these thoughts to HSN in the past. I agree with other comments about the need for styles for women in their 50’s & 60’s who are still active and need good quality clothing at affordable prices. I look for solid colors maybe colorful blouses to pair with them. Hemlines below the knee and tailored looks. Bright, blousy styles with lots of filmy, clingy fabrics and low necklines don’t work for professional women. I don’t buy much clothing from HSN but would if my tastes were there.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make lengths for WOMEN OVER 45/NO LONGER SHOWING KNEES/OVER 5′4″. while i like ALL dresses from ALL vendors @ hsn.com, i cannot buy ANY of them because the avg. lengths are always ~37″-40″. a length of ~42″-44″ inches would be PERFECT for my height. also, i like to belt them, but these shorter dresses would end up being even shorter belted. sadly, i currently ONLY purchase your maxi/midi dresses and i adjust them myself to hit right @ the knee. alas… :o(

Petites, Petites, PLEASE! HSN offers a few petites but not enough to satisfy most body types and preferences. I am 5′1-1/2, size 4 with average to fuller bust & average to slender hips. Clean lines with a slight contour at the waist to accentuate my curves and 1-2″ above the knee. Business dress. Solid colors with a classic chic appearance. Please bring us square necklines as they are very flattering to most and three-quarter sleeves or a sleeveless dress with a complimentary, removable jacket.

  • Jinlo says:

I love dresses and there are so many cute ones here. But why no petite dresses? Why does HSN not carry any petites except the occasional pant? Petite women deserve clothes that fit properly.

    Lauren,
I’m not sure if you defined my body type…busty, not much of a waist, some stomach and great legs. I’m 5′7″ and like my dresses to the knee or a tiny bit shorter otherwise I look matronly.
I usually look best in v-neck a=line. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Brinnr…
You are definitely a heart shape-as am I! I love empire waist dresses or dresses with a bit more fabric at the waistline. Look for anything with a little shorter hemline to accentuate those legs as well! I love the new line for us Marisa by Marisa Kenson who has an “invisibelt” in all of her dresses. It pulls in the tummy area and comes in great prints! If you love prints like I do- also check out the Tiana B Peasant Dress 156-300. It is one of my favorites this spring!

I love your video right from the picture…feels like I am on SFA website. I always love being able to see the back and front on the model in a video – it shows the flow of the dress which is important.
Request – how about a few just right below the knee dresses. There are maxis which are great but most are above the knee. I love an inch below the knee for lady like look.

    Lauren,

I love your new dress shop and I agree with you dresses are and will always be the best fashion item in your wardrobe. I wear a dress or skirt and blouse and pumps every day to work and after work. I love the bold, bright colors and especially the prints in some of the spring fashion and there is a dress for every occasion from club wear to business attire and special occasions. I love polka dot dresses. Could you please get a line of polka dot dresses, skirts, blouses and pumps?

  • LBOGGIE says:

I looked under size and Im disappointed that petite isnt listed. The short girls get forgotten again. It would be nice if the designers would’nt forget us. Its sad a whole group of women they seem to forget about.

  • Stay tuned for all of the long maxi dresses coming! Each week we have new deliveries of dresses- especially longer lengths!

  • cancan989 says:

I looked for a specific blog for the designer for very vollkbracht, but didn’t see one. I just want to say how pleased I am with printed zebra dress item #159-501, the dress is soft and doesn’t hug a woman’s curves too tight, yet it has enough shape to be flattering. Is there any way to get this dress in more color combos maybe pink, yellow, grey or green even a deeper coral? I got the orange one, I went back for the black version but it had sold out. All solid colors would be great also.

  • metalneck says:

I tend to look better in A-line dresses as I’m thick waisted with matching hips (!) and the flare evens the body out. Loving gauzy, flowy dresses with fitted bodice, either halter style or v- neck. Color blocking has really caught my attention as well as small prints as I’m vertically challenged. Would LOVE more petite length dresses and skirts!! Have adequate chest…just saying!

  • MarineMa says:

I love the previous 2 ladies’ suggestions! I also like soft fabric, 3/4 sleeves & low cut bodices. My favorite kinds of dresses are: for work & church – faux wrap dresses in a flattering print or pattern that disguises lumps, and defines the waist. For us fashionistas of a certain age, mid calf or over the knee skirts in A-line skirt shapes. For special occasions, a more flowing fabric & softer prints, like tropical florals. Halter or wrap shaped bodices, V-necklines & higher waists.

  • goatsrus says:

I would love to see more casual, more like resort or everyday, airy fabrics like soft gauzes, and flowing dresses for very hot summers that don’t look like mumus, have a little closer fitting bodice and some short or elbow sleeves for those who don’t wish to show their arms.Look to India who has been making these types of dresses for years, so the fabrics could take a clue from the beautiful prints seen in India. My retired lifestyle, I have no use for fancy dresses! Just my thoughts!

  • tappat says:

Like form fitting in waist. Long enough to cover knees or longer. Sleeves-3/4. Not a very full skirt. More a line or straight. Prints/color block/prints are all good. Necklines- some cut low/sexy and some appropriate for any occassion. Not clingy fabric. But fabric that follows body-not tight.
