This July & August: Recovery & Discovery
Well it’s July and time to get back on the road again. We have so many great things happening in July and August; I’m really excited to get moving once again. In June I had to recover from an ear infection that stopped all my traveling. I’m not used to being in one place very long, so I’m looking forward to the opportunities I have coming up.
July will begin with something truly spectacular for the July 24 Hour Jewelry Event, beginning at midnight on July 10th. At that time I will release a Today’s Special that you just don’t want to miss. It’s been a long time in the making, but is truly one of the best designs I’ve ever had the pleasure of creating. The Today’s Special will feature a choice selection of new blue and green turquoise obtained from a mine in Mongolia. This is the first time we’ve used this new material. It will also be offered in a new, genuine strawberry coral, which is out of this world. I hope you can take the time to tune in and check it out.
August will begin with our new line of turquoise bowls for Lynn Murphy’s 20th Anniversary. These are brand-new and the first time we’ve ever offered them. These have been a labor of love and taken over a year and a half to bring them to the market, so we can’t wait to show them off. The bowls feature a large, custom forged stainless steel bowl, that is hand-inlaid in a mosaic pattern of blue or green turquoise. These are real show pieces, but as usual they are limited in quantity so I hope you have a chance to see them. Then on the 24th, 25th, and 26th you’ll get to see what Mine Finds has been up to. We have three great days to share all the new designs and materials we have been working on for the past year, with an exciting release of a brand new pink silver metal we’ve been developing. This is truly exciting and I can’t wait to show you the new look that is exclusive just for our show.
The rest of July and August will be spent hoping around the world meeting with miners and obtaining new materials for the coming year. To my delight, I’ll be flying myself to several new locations and working with rough, American materials alongside local miners in the United States; and possibly even with new turquoise offerings in Mexico.
I can’t wait for it to kick off on July 10th,and I hope you can join us for the fun and great new selections we have to offer.
Until then safe travels,
J.

jay, love your peices. have a nice little collection. am loving the lapis stuff. i am looking for chunkier peices and please please please more bracelets. in lapis and turquoise. thank you. p.s. maybe next summer toe rings.?
I have something comong up that might be of interest. I took large natural chunks of lapis and we bead blasted them to give them a textured look. Best J
Jay—I have 2 requests.1) bring back the green amazonite (?) stretch chunky bead bracelet. I bought some of your green opal pieces in the past and this bracelet will go with them perfectly. There is a picture of the bracelet I am writing about on the internet (not on HSN) under the images shown when you search for Jay King. 2) Please do more magnet pieces. 4 years ago I purchased Apple Coral pieces. The pendant was fitted with a magnet and the beads are too, but these were too short. Thanks
I’ll see what I can do on the amazonite. I don’t have any rough right now. We have all kinds of cool magnetic clasps in the line up Best J
Jay, Regarding my questions and comments, you just need to slow down a little bit, and really read people’s blogs more closely. I still love you, and I love your jewelry collection that you try to keep as natural as possible. I hope this blog is short and simple enough for you! Be safe and healthy in your travels, and enjoy your freedom that you feel when flying—like being on an eagle’s wings! Take care. (L.O.L.) :0)
Hi Jay, I was able to watch all of your Shows yesterday. You and they were very interesting—except I wasn’t too pleased with your late P.M. Show. You seemed a little bit obnoxious/overbearing at times. Aside from that, I did find, and bought a few of your pieces that I really liked—especially your Green Opal Necklace, Misty Mountain Blue Turq. Collar, and your Citrine Beaded Necklace. I don’t think that I am difficult to understand regarding my questions and comments that I blog to you about.
By the way Jay I very much love your jewelry, I own quite a bit and I very much enjoy your shows, perhaps you can make a few smaller bangles?? Hopefully, globetrotter
When you say smaller are you saying thinner or smaller in size. The small medium one we just did fits about everyone we tested it on. Thanks J
Hey Jay,
I only got to see a little of your shows yesterday, that thing called work got in the way LOL but I did, at first, purchase all 3 of the TS
in the small size but after watching the show I decided to cancel my order, because I have an extremely small wrist, maybe 4 inches if that. Now I am having buyer’s remorse because I wonder if they WOULD have fit??? What do you think?? I always have basically all the links taken out of watches. Did I totally mess UP? So bummed now what do you thi
We actually try on everything at my company and the gals wear the designs. We have a pretty deverse group so we cover almost every size. So the answer is we have some small wrists in our shop and the reason I offered it in the medium large was becuase we wanted everyone the ability to get one that fit properly. Hope I answered your question. J
Hi Jay,
I enjoyed your latest visit to HSN. I always do, your jewelry is exquisite ( I own several pieces ) and I enjoy your stories. I am very anxious to see the new turquoise bowels!!! Also have you ever made any turquoise slab earrings? I lived in Santa Fe for a bit and that was something I wanted to purchase before I left. I did get two smaller slabs. I really would like some big ones though. Thanks.
Have a wonderful time trotting around the globe!
I’ve done lots of slab earrings in my day. I’ll put it on my design list and see if we can get it in the mix. Thanks for watching J
Hey, Jay!I did watch your shows yesterday, and again, can’t wear your copper..turns my skin.Anyway, please keep in mind that offering some of the same items in only silver would also feed your admirers who stay ravenously committed to silver! The TS was heavenly, but I couldn’t touch it, even with all the colors…not copper-lined.If silver,I would have grabbed them all!Last question:what is that bowl you keep with you at the table while you are on the air?? Will you ever make one for us like that?
Are there any products from Jay King not made or mined in China?
Good question. I guess the best thing would be to show you my passport. Most people keep their passport for ten years. They only will do four inserts in mine before I have to get a new one. My passport is two inches thick now and China isn’t the majority of the stamps. I travel the world and make and aquire materials every where. FYI I’m not aware of a single company making jewelry stones ect completely in the USA. It’s not really feasible. Best J
We will be offering a new metal called pink silver soon and not using copper in 2013. The problem I’m having is I’m offering big items in silver still but seem to be meeting with some price issues. So I’ll do everything in my power to keep doing things to keep it interesting for everyone. I have bowls coming in August. The bowl I have on the table is just one of the custom bowls I make. These retail for around $1200. I think i’ll have a big surprize for you soon. J
Greetings Jay,
LOVE your stuff! I can’t even guess how many pieces I have. I have a request I haven’t seen or heard yet. I would like BIGGER earrings. Maybe hoops with a stone in them? To match a necklace maybe? I’ve started collecting the new copper pieces now. Ok, yea, I’m a Jay King addict.
Thanks for all the support. I can’t do what I do without you. Do you want big stone hoops? Or metal hoops with stones set in them? Best J
I was thinking of metal hoops with a stone in them. I hadn’t thought of big stone hoops, but I think I would like those also. Keep the new stuff coming!
hi jay, i am from tucson, probably wishing it was new mexico!
i’m wondering if you could create a collection based on the traditional southwestern
jewelry from the native americans of the past.
i think that hsn viewers would respond most favorably to the look of old pawn pieces -
older looking burnished metals with styles from the southwest and the west of the past.
hope to run into you and shivanne at the gem show next season,
take care, lorilene
p.s. maybe some colorful inlays as well!
Thanks for the idea. I grew up in the southwest an only did native american jewelry at one time. Jennifer at Chaco Canyon is my niece and she now does the native american designs. They do a wonderful job and I don’t want to do the same styles shes doing. This is a seperate deal not part of Mine Finds. Best J
Jay, are you able to make the bangle bracelet in oval?
today spl is lovely and I ordered 2 colors in bracelet and necklace. what do I use to clean the copper?
thanks, lady
I use a sun shine cloth. We include a polishing cloth with each order, but I had the pleasure of meeting the spokes person for the sparkle cleaning cloth this show. These are great and I’ve just tried it and I’m very pleased with the result. I don’t recomend ANY liquid cleaners. Please let me know if you need further help. Best J
Jay, will the Sparkle cleaning cloth remove the tarnish from the copper on my triple strand red sea coral necklace. I’ve only worn it twice and rather than look like an expensive piece of jewelry, it looks like I picked it up along the side of the road. I wiped it off and put in back in the little plastic bag you provided and it still looks bad. I’m truly disappointed with the copper jewelry and won’t buy another piece. I do love this design and had great high hopes. Now I’m out $150.00.
Hi J, just recieved my bangles bought all 3 colors and they are beautiful!!! Just want to know how to keep the copper clean?
My best to you,
Becky
Hello Jay,
Loved your TS bangle, bought it in the blue color- really like the combination with copper. Quick question. You mentioned in the presentation that the color is not altered- the description online is that this is compressed turquoise. Could you explain what is involved with creating a compressed turquoise piece? Thanks again for a lovely piece.
In this case the material comes out in nuggets. They range in size form a golf ball to a small nugget. In order to be able to cut the material in slabs and not waste it, in this case the order was so large we used a process where we take all the natural nuggets and compress them together so I get a large cutting surface. We don’t change the colors at all. Hope this answers the question. Best J
I have a quick question. Can I store my silver jewelry, bronze jewelry, and copper jewelry together?
GiGi
Yes but I would keep them in the anti-tarnish bags. Best J
I was looking forward to a great TSV from you but the length & magnetic closure of the coordinating necklace kept me from purchasing the bracelet/necklace/earrings. Would have purchased the set in several colors, too. The magnetic closure is really limiting when the necklace length is < 20 inches. Lots of women are like me & don't want anything too high up on the neck and/or want flexibility w/a necklace. Suggest you repeat the necklace w/your traditional hook and 2.75 inches extender.
Thanks we did this to keep the price reasonable. Because of the silver costs you might be shocked about how much that actually costs. Thats why when HSN puts things on sale I’m literally shocked. Really there are many times we sold things that the finding costs me almost as much as what were selling it for. The necklaces took one and a half to two pounds of rough material to cut each one. This is very exspensive so I was trying to keep it affordable Best J
Jay, I’m so glad you are recovered. I just finished watching 2 shows, very informative as always! Thanks for bringing so much red this time. Now I am inspired to do some beading, although my designs can’t touch yours. All the best!
Anytime you create something with your own hands it’s a great design in my opinion. It means alot you like what we do also. Take care J
Hi Jay – Love your jewelry! I also wish HSN would let you tell us more stories about your travels.
Would you consider making more bangles please. I purchased the strawberry coral and blue turquoise bangles and LOVE THEM! Also, pendants that are sophisticated, a bit more exclusive and not as large.
Thanks so much and take care in your travels.
I’m designing more banbles now. I never did them before because they weren’t wearer friendly. This new clasp design makes them very wearer friendly. Thanks for taking the time to write Best J
Hi Jay, Looking at your presentation as I write, You have outdone yourself AGAIN! TS is stunning bought all 3 colors and the Anhui Copper Necklace can’ wait to get it.
I’m so glad you liked them. I just love that bangle wish I had more of the coral. Thanks for all the support Best J
Jay, you did it again!!! Love, love, love the TS bangle bracelets. Bought all 3 colors, the coral necklace and earrings! I already have the green Misty Mountain turquoise earrings. May have to buy the blue ones if they are still available! Thanks for bringing us such beautiful jewelry. My inner rockhound is really celebrating!!! This bangle style bracelet will look good in a lot of different stones…more please! Looking forward to August now. Nancy MCO
I’m glad you liked it. I just love this bangle and I’ll do more in differant roughs in the future. Thanks for all the support really Best J
Hi Jay – major product question about your Jay King Arizona Queens Valley Turquoise Doublet Ring.
First: the color’s stunning, love the story about the source. Nice style for the ladies or gents too.
QUESTION: It’s described as a “doublet” both in the item name AND in the item description. However, neither the description nor the video mentions what the turquoise is, well, “doubled” with.
Is it a clear quartz OVER the Turquoise? Perhaps another stone, like onyx, UNDER the turquoise?
Mike
Love the finds you bring Jay, just wish MORE were UNISEX or geared toward GUYS. I’ve loved a few pieces like the large Rectangle Lapis and Sterling ring, easy for a guy to wear. You have a Chrysocolla Rectangular Pendant in copper that is bold with GREAT color, but over 90% of the reviews agree that the bail is TOO SMALL. If you re-work that or a similarly styled piece, would love it! Please consider necklaces WITHOUT GRADUATED beads(seems feminine). UNIFORM size BEADS would feel more UNISEX.
Okay we are working on several new designs. Thanks for the input. When it says doublet in the case of the turquoise it means the natural turquoise is set in a matrix material. This is done so we can cut the material and not crack it. We don’t put anything on top that would be a triplet. I hope I answered the question Best J
I see the bracelet in the different sizes! Yay! Thank you Jay! I hope the 6 1/2 fits. I already ordered it because I won’t be able to see you live tomorrow and I don’t want to miss out.
Hi Jay, looking forward to seeing your TS at midnight tonight!!! I will be buying one, at least, for a B-day present to myself! Your bowls look ubelieveable, even in the photo. Can’t wait to see them on your show. Nice looking plane…a Cessna? I used to own a Commander 112A before I retired. Miss being able to take off and fly up the coast at sunset when ever I felt like it! Hope your travels bring you lots of new beautiful rough! Take care and fly safe! Nancy MCO
I couldn’t wear the 6 1/2 thats why I made a larger size also so everyone could enjoy it. Thanks for taking time to write it’s great to hear your thoughts. Best J
Jay, Please let me know what your thoughts are regarding these “Sunshine Cloths” for cleaning your Copper Jewelry. Your Assistants, Jill and Stacie, are such dedicated, wonderful and good-hearted people. I am sure you are glad to have them on your team at your Store in Albuquerque, N.M. Enjoy yourself showing off your beautiful new jewelry designs on July 10! Take care, and be safe with your travels—whether by land, sea, or in the air. (L.O.L.) :0)
The commander is a nice plane I’ve flown a few in my day. Flying is like breathing to me and for those that haven’t experianced flying in light aircraft I don’t think they can really understand the freedom you feel. Thanks for taking time to write J
Hi Jay, It was so nice to hear from you again. I do tend to ask too many questions sometimes, and I know you try your best to answer them as best you can. Your wonderful friend (and mine) and Sales Mgr., Stacie, had sent me a few pieces of your “Sunshine Cloths” for cleaning your Copper Jewelry a while ago. These Cloths are a miracle wonder! They replenish your Copper pieces so well—they look like new again! Are you ever going to make them available on your Jewelry Site on H.S.N. anytime soon?
Sorry this crazy thing its posting funny for some reason. I meet the spokes person for the Sparkle cloth and he gave me a sample. It works great also, have to say I’m impressed with it. Best J
Hey, Jay. I know you have brought a few clip-style earrings to Mine Finds; I can never buy a pair of turquoise on-line before they sell out. How about some dangles? Love your craftsmanship and attention to detail. Thanks.
Okay I’ll make sure and add it in the mix when I can. We’ve offered a few even turquoise dangle clips but I’ve got lots of new looks already drawn up Best J
