This July & August: Recovery & Discovery
Well it’s July and time to get back on the road again. We have so many great things happening in July and August; I’m really excited to get moving once again. In June I had to recover from an ear infection that stopped all my traveling. I’m not used to being in one place very long, so I’m looking forward to the opportunities I have coming up.
July will begin with something truly spectacular for the July 24 Hour Jewelry Event, beginning at midnight on July 10th. At that time I will release a Today’s Special that you just don’t want to miss. It’s been a long time in the making, but is truly one of the best designs I’ve ever had the pleasure of creating. The Today’s Special will feature a choice selection of new blue and green turquoise obtained from a mine in Mongolia. This is the first time we’ve used this new material. It will also be offered in a new, genuine strawberry coral, which is out of this world. I hope you can take the time to tune in and check it out.
August will begin with our new line of turquoise bowls for Lynn Murphy’s 20th Anniversary. These are brand-new and the first time we’ve ever offered them. These have been a labor of love and taken over a year and a half to bring them to the market, so we can’t wait to show them off. The bowls feature a large, custom forged stainless steel bowl, that is hand-inlaid in a mosaic pattern of blue or green turquoise. These are real show pieces, but as usual they are limited in quantity so I hope you have a chance to see them. Then on the 24th, 25th, and 26th you’ll get to see what Mine Finds has been up to. We have three great days to share all the new designs and materials we have been working on for the past year, with an exciting release of a brand new pink silver metal we’ve been developing. This is truly exciting and I can’t wait to show you the new look that is exclusive just for our show.
The rest of July and August will be spent hoping around the world meeting with miners and obtaining new materials for the coming year. To my delight, I’ll be flying myself to several new locations and working with rough, American materials alongside local miners in the United States; and possibly even with new turquoise offerings in Mexico.
I can’t wait for it to kick off on July 10th,and I hope you can join us for the fun and great new selections we have to offer.
Until then safe travels,
J.

Jay, I have just one more short note here. Your artisans who made the stainless steel bases for all of your beautiful Turquoise Bowls are definitely into their craft also. I hope that you will be able to continue to do what you love to do so much for a very very long time to come. Take care and stay safe, and healthy, in your travels.

Hi Jay, One of my Blog messages that I sent to you yesterday evening Sunday, Sept. 9, was deleted from your site for some unknown reason. Regarding your Blue Red Skin Turq. Bowl that I received recently, it is really gorgeous with its blend of that beautiful Blue Turq. that was all articulately inlaid by hand by your very skilled artisans. I can imagine all of the time-intensive “Labor of Love” that went into this work-of-art piece! (Con’t.)
Jay,It’s really amazing what you can do with stainless steel. You got me, Jay—hooked on your Blue Turq. Bowl! I have decided to keep it because I do love the design and the color. It looks real nice on top of the 6-Drawer Maple Dresser that my husband built for me to store your beautiful jewelry in.I know you are a regular, wonderful, and down-to-earth person and that’s what I love about you.You are also blessed with being able to be in a profession that you really enjoy so much.Take care. Carol
Hi Jay, I would like to express my condolences to you if you knew any of the miners and families who had passed away because of that earthquake that hit the S.W region of China on Friday Sept. 7. Regarding your Blue Turq. Bowl that I received recently, it is really gorgeous with its blend of Turq. that was all inlaid by hand. I can imagine the time-intensive “Labor of Love” that went into this work-of-art piece! Your artisans who did the stainless steel base are definitely into their craft also.
Glad you like the bowl they are limited editions so we won’t make them in turquoise again. None of my mining friends are in the area that was effected Best J
Jay received polis cloth , it really helps, regular gold and silver cloth does not work thanks
One more thing from me. I have collected rocks since I was little, don’t know why, just love them, any kind, even ugly ones. lol. I recently met my nephews little girl, Mia, who is 3-1/2 yrs old. As they were heading out for their long trip home we were saying goodbye when I noticed a bunch of rocks on the floor of their minivan. I asked my nephew about them. He said, “Oh, those are Mia’s. She collects rocks very quietly everywhere we go”. I about died laughing. IT’S HEREDITARY!!!!
Its a gene I know. Connie Craigs little boy is the same way Best J
Jay, when you get that new copper alloy worked out please consider multistand liquid copper necklace and bracelets. They would compliment your pieces so well.
Okay I will didn’t think of it thanks for the idea. Best J
Wonderful show and looking forward to your Oct show..my birthday month! Bought the rainbow calsilica necklace and earrings. Absolutely gorgeous!! Do you think you will be coming out with a ring anytime soon? You have had some beautiful rings in the past, it just wasn’t my time to buy.
I have just aquired a bit of new rough so let me see what I can do. The October show should be lots of fun. Happy early Birthday. Mine is in a few days I think this year I’ll starting going backwards and hopefully make it till i’m one year old again. Best J
HelloJaycreatorofbeautifuljewelryKing, Please create 24″ necklaces. I wear blazers to work and your 18-19″ necklaces with extenders are too short. A 24″ with a 2-3″ extender would be perfect. My first choice would be black agate, then lapis, turquoise, etc. Also, how about some earrings to match the carved coral and turquoise necklace that was a TS a few years ago? Thanks for your consideration.
Okay I’ll put your requests down. I’m travelin pretty hard right now but in a few weeks will be back a few days to do more designs. Thnaks for taking the time to give me your ideas. Best J
Saw your last show in August…..Have bought many items…always get “where did you get that”…so keep showing more beautiful items!!!
Thanks for watching and supporting our art. It warms my heart to hear that really. The whole goal is to have people admire and be interested in what you do. I love it when people see our designs and just can’t help ask. Where did you get that? It’s the best feeling for us. Best J
Jay, I think that most people, including myself, would love to wear these beautiful Lapis and Branch Coral materials if they were made into bold and beautiful Free-Form Nugget Necklaces, and they would be a little more affordable for most of us also. Please let me know what your thoughts are regarding this idea.
Love you, and all that you do for everyone! Carol
Hi Jay, With all due respect for you, Jay, and your entire team, I think that your Turquoise Bowls are really beautiful, but they are very expensive, and can only be used as “Conversation Pieces”/”Dust Collectors” on one’s coffee table or Hutch. I hope that you have some of your Lapis material and your Branch Coral material left so that you could, hopefully, make some bold and beautiful Free-Form Nugget Necklaces out of both of these materials. (Con’t.)
I have offered the coral and lapis in freeform bead cuts in the past. The bowls are made by request. I get lots of people asking for them and they use them in many ways I assume as I do. The fact is they are as inexspensive as I can possibly make them. This is real gem material. I really try and make sure that everyone gets only the best possible deal from us. Since you have meet me you know I’m just a regular person just like everyone else, just have a fun profession. Best J
Well, if there’s ONE person who has every object you’ve made (not jewelry or jewelry holder), it’s ME! I have the best collection, and will be displaying everything on tables and the china cabinet as soon as I reorganize the livingroom to accommodate YOUR items! I keep getting comments from friends saying I have ENOUGH! (But, how can you say “no” to Jay King??) Why not do a cruise and give us stories and technical info on gemology?? It’s a win-win and good advertising for HSN and for you!!
I think I have the same situation I have bowls, mineral samples, and specimens all over the house and offices. I always find something new but I am a neat freak so I do organize it all and manage to make it look good. I’ve never done a cruise except the last voyage of the Queen Mary II so I’m not sure how that would work, but I’m always up for new ways to meet everyone and share information. Best J
Jay, I think a cruise would be a great idea!!! They do art shows on most of the cruise ships, so why not a gem and jewelry show. The only problem you might have is the jewelry they sell on board the ship, but yours is so much different it might not be that mush of an issue. You could bring some of the rough and give a talk on your travels and where you found it, and also the jewelry made from the rough. Wouldn’t hurt to find out! Could be lots of fun. Nancy MCO
Jay, Hope you took a day off to rest up from the last marathon on HSN! When in October can we hope to see you and are you bringing another bowl, box, coaster, plates or what??? I’m having to budget between your apppearances! The two big bowls was quite a pinch. But, as usual, your items are unique and will always be beautiful. Is there anytime you’ll have something we can put food in?? These seem to be decorative (and, of course, they are!!) How about a chunky pendant in silver alone?Ciao!
Nope travelin as usual gotta make hay while the suns shining. I have a new lapis bowl coming for October. I just wrote my new blog with the dates and info should post this week. Best J
Jay, Would you be interested in making stand-alone floral pendants and also include beaded necklaces with them? You know, carve flowers—like Roses, Daisies, Petunias, etc., from your various stones, and make them two or three-dimensional. These would be so feminine and awesome! Please let me know your thoughts about my new idea here. Please stay safe, and healthy, wherever you may be.
Take care. (L.O.L.) Carol
Hi Jay, Thanks for your concern regarding my little budget. I am still thinking about that beautiful Blue Turquoise Bowl. I really love it—your design and the color! I may decide to keep it after I receive it, but then I may have to take a serious sabbatical from further purchases for the rest of the year. What’s the next best thing to receiving flowers from a secret admirer or someone special in a woman’s life? Wearing them is even better, and something she would have to remember forever.
Dear Jay,
I just love your jewelry. I bought the strawberry coral bracelet but missed the necklace and earrings to go with it. Do you have any ideas about what necklace or pendant would compliment the coral bracelet? I’ve been looking but no luck so far. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!
Wait till October and I have some unique coral pieces that might just fit the bill. I don’t have much of the rough material now but I’m always looking. That material was just a lucky find, but you never know if I’ll find something else. Best J
Dear Jay,
I have a very serious problem with my latest purchase – Item 193-965. The bale on the turqoise pendant does not fit over the beads. Can this be fixed?? I love the necklace – the Nako turquoise is beautiful, but the pendant really makes it. I notice that others are having the same problem.
Thanks
Hmmmm I can’t imagine how that got by our quality control gals. They are very good at what they do. If you go to HSN Customer service and enter my name it will tell you how to send us your personal info in a secure manner. We will certianly take care of you and fix any problems you might have. This goes for anything you ever get from us. We stand behind what we do 100% Best J
You mentioned that the purple opal stone is not solid opal. Is the opal part of the stone purple?
I messed up and did not order the Seraphinite necklace and earrings. Is there any way to buy them?
If you watch HSN.com there might be a chance one will pop up, but I don’t have any at the office or retail outlet at this time. That material is so rare and I don’t have much remaining right now. The purple is opal the white is chalcedony. Thanks J
My husband bought me the Tidepool Stone copper and silver “tree of life” necklace. IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! What kind of stone is Tidepool? Is it a type of Jasper or Quartz? I am having trouble finding out about the kind of stone it is. Thank you for your wonderful designs!
Tidepool is something I found in Madagascar. A member of our group named it because it reminded her of the color of the tidepools we had seen on our trip. I’m not were I can acess my GIA report but I would say it’s a form of jasper. Although it has numerous minerals in it. It was a very small deposit and we only mined a small amount. I’m glad your happy with the design. You have a good husband there. Best J
Jay,My friend,Dana, loved your Frosty Spruce Stone Necklace too! What’s the next best thing to receiving flowers from a secret admirer or someone special in a woman’s life? Wearing them is even better! Would you be interested in making stand-alone floral pendants and also include beaded necklaces with them? You know, carve flowers—like roses, daisies, petunias, out of your various stones, and make them two or three-dimensional. Please let me know your thoughts about my idea. Take care. Carol
Jay, I have to try to pay down my charge card balance or I will have to go into recovery mode! (Laugh) I modeled your Green Opal Necklace (Russia),Item No. 176-298, at my husband’s office last week for Dana because she wanted to see it. Well, she loved it so well that she ordered it on our computer at the end of the day! She just got it yesterday and she absolutely loves it! I was so glad to hear that. I showed her your Frosty Spruce Stone Necklace (Brazil), Item No. 196-989, today. (Con’t.)
Hi Jay,I was able to watch most of your Shows last weekend. It was nice seeing you again, and they were very nice. You really outdid yourself again with having so many new and beautiful pieces of jewelry, and your Turquoise Bowls! It was very hard for me to decide which pieces I wanted to have. I ordered five items, but I have to return three of them which, very unfortunately, includes that beautiful Blue Turquoise Bowl. My charge card balance is higher now than I would like it to be. (Con’t.)
I’m glad you found a few things that caught your eye, but like I always say stay in your budget. I don’t want anyone to get into a bind because of us. Best J
Jay I received my rainbow calsilica and boy did you outdo yourself on that one. I am so glad I ordered it! Love the beads in the necklace! The round ones are a perfect size for stud earrings! GOT ANY LEFT? I’m hinting again. Now I can’t wait for my blue bowl! Also when are your next bowls due out? Can’t wait for a coral one.
I’m glad you loved the necklace. I have more rainbow calsilica in stock so I’m still designing this week I’ll put your request on my list. I have a lapis bowl coming in October thats fantastic. The coral bowls are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Were making them in Kingman Arizona and they are made of branch coral. They are scheduled to be released in December. Best J
