Holiday Greetings from Jay King!

Submitted by Jay King on December 22, 2011 – 2:15 PM126 Comments

I’m home at my Florida house this week. I have an early morning routine while I’m here. I’m an early riser and love this time of day when I can enjoy the peace and quiet. This morning I’m having a cup of coffee looking out over the small lake in my backyard. Every morning I’m greeted by Elvis, our local alligator. I named him Elvis because he comes by every morning about the same time and gives me a big toothy grin like he’s saying,  ”Good morning! I’m up too.” I’m not sure but I think he might be a vegetarian; the other morning I watched as four ducks flew in and almost landed on his back and all he did was just float along with them. It’s the small things in life, like this, that really make it worth living.

As I get older I seem to reflect more on the little things in life. I can find humor in almost any situation. This morning I was thinking about all that has gone on this year and how fast it all seemed to slip by. Sometimes it’s good to just take time to stop and smell the roses. I guess I’m most grateful for everyone who has helped me and supported me throughout my life. I’m always amazed at how funny life can be, at times. You start on one path and end up somewhere totally unexpected. I think that is what I love about traveling. You start out on one path and you never know with who or where you’re going to end up. I love this part of my life.

I thought I would give thanks to all of those that make it possible for us to have jewelry to sell on HSN.  In this blog I have included some pictures of Santa’s Workshop making sure the December show arrives on time at HSN. I hope you will enjoy seeing some of the faces of the people that make Mine Finds by Jay King successful!

I’m getting ready to take off again this week and will be gone for the rest of the month; coming back just in time to do my final event of the year. I’ll be on-air the 29th and 30th, and wrapping up December on the 31st. Then I’ll start celebrating the New Year and get ready to kick the tires and light the fires for 2012. This is going to be a great show and we have a great Today’s Special. It’s big and bold and I feel one of the most unusual designs I have to offer this year. The November event was fantastic and the new shell inlay bowls were a huge hit. So thanks to all of you who helped make it a great success. I have so many new Mine Finds and end-of-year deals to show you, I just can’t wait. I hope you’ll have a chance to see them on the show.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and thanks for taking the time to support us and for sharing your thoughts and ideas.

See you at the end of the month.

Safe Travels ~ J

Hey Jay what’s up? Just wanted to thank you for your green opal pieces. I purchased the newest green opal pendant with the beautiful silver work and paired it with your wavy silver collar and the green opal necklace with all the little squares, wow what a killer combination! I also have your green opal necklace and pendant that has little pearls and little green opal rectangular shaped beads and a large green opal pendant with beautiful silver work on the bail. I love wearing all these pieces.
By the way, I get a lot of wear out of your silver collars and have a comment – sometimes the silver collars come off when I bend over to pick something up if I have a pendent on them. Do you have any ideas on how to keep them on in situations like this? I have gotten used to holding on to them with one hand and picking up things with the other. Bending them a little works some of the time but if the pendant has some weight to it, it’s still hard to keep them on. Can you design something for the back to prevent this, maybe like a safety chain?

    Hi Jay,

Wondered if you have ever considered teaming up with Technibond and using some of the leftover stones to make some station bangles or necklaces or even bypass bracelets in turquoise or other stones. I know other designers have dabbled a bit with the Technibond and I know you say that sometimes you have some materials that aren’t in a large enough supply for some of the big bold Mine Find pieces. Enjoy all your stories about where you find the gems and all that is involved in getting them to HSN.

Lovely speaking to you today. My first opportunity to speak to you directly. This has been a spectacular event. Both new and clearance pieces are stunning with extraordinary value. I know you are careful about origins of stones — but it would be wonderful if you could mention the family category that items come from which have a special name (ex. carnival stone is in the tourmaline family). THANKS! Happy healthy and safe travels! ~Metaphysical Marsha~

    Hi Jay!

I love your collection and designs!!

Was watching your show on HSN Friday night…….I want a silver cuff like the one you were wearing; do you sell that on HSN?

  • Karen820 says:

Hi Jay: I absolutely love your designs and have several pieces made with the sterling silver. I’m interested in your copper pieces, however I have a question: Is the copper you use treated or coated so it won’t allow the skin to turn black like I’ve observed when many people wear the bracelets, etc for arthritis?

Another thought: Have you worked on any design using the mesquite wood and inlaid turquoise dust (maybe) and fashion a cross pendant?

Thanks again for all you do for us
    God Bless

  • FrenchFry9 says:

    Hi Jay,
I purchased your green turquoise, copper station necklace, and find it even more stunning than it appeared on air. However, I have searched your line on the HSN website for earrings to go with it, and, unfortunately, found none. How about designing some using the same green turquoise disks you used in the necklace? At the very least, bring us a variety of copper earring designs, maybe even without any stones, so we can find something to go with your other copper jewelry designs.

    • Jay King says:

Hi we did make earrings to match but we sold out on them, and unfortunetly I don’t have any here at the office, nor do I have anymore Saddle Mountian rough at this time. Or I’d whip you up a pair. I do have copper earrings coming your way and I’ll be visiting the Saddle Mountian mine sometime in early March. Best J

  • Jay, Can you give us some hints on the February TSV?

  • vonbaron17 says:

Hi Jay! I’ve never written to you before, but I wanted to tell you how much I love, love, love your jewelry! The 3 Saddle Mountain pieces I bought are fantastic! I feel so glamorous wearing them. I have so much of your wonderful jewelry, I keep saying I have enough, but ALWAYS enjoy watching your shows so much, I end up buying more! Wow! is all I can say! Thanks Jay!

  • Millwl says:

    Jay,

I hope you had a wonderful holdiay. I just love your jewelry and have now collected quite a few pieces. Sadly, one of my favorite pair of earrings which are several years old lost one of the small rhodochrosite (spelling?) stones in one of its flow petals. Do you repair any of your jewelry? I cannot find the stone to try to have it reset. Any way of saving these really cute earrings?

  • lucky424 says:

Jay are you going to ever have any more yellow calcite? I ordered one of your necklaces but had it stolen. Id really like another.

  • Lacey987 says:

.Jay,you have the most beautiful pieces of jewelry.Have purchased quite a few and the quality is superb!Cant wait for your next show on HSN!A pleasure to listen to your .stories!Love your different designs

  • Hi Jay, I’m one of the many ladies pestering you for a plus size collar. Can you give me a update please? Thanks and keep the longer necklaces coming! Any longer ones in purples stones in the near future?

  • rckhnd says:

First let me say I love your jewelry, especially the Sleeping Beauty turquois but I have a question. In your video you show people working on pieces of jewelry in your workshop but on most of the descriptions of your jewelry on HSN the country of origin is China. Can’t the pieces be made in America?

    • Jay King says:

Thanks for taking the time to write. I grew up in a family made of ranchers, farmers, miners, and oil men. I love America and all she offers us. I employee and support a vast amount of Americans in everything I do. It isn’t possible to do what I do all in America. Just like my truck. It’s a big Dodge 4×4. The reality is the metal and lots of the pieces and parts are imported. It’s still a quality product at a reasonable cost. I do everything I can in the USA. Best J

  • BOSSDOGG says:

Hi Jay,letting you know I like the copper and amey earring. Is the copper unlacquered? The jewelry I had before had that nasty lacquer that cracked and pealed letting the metel tarnish and changing its color by yellowing. Your copper looks better and if it holds it will be great.I worked with copper some at school in Tucson and loved it.Its a beautiful stand in for pink gold with stones.I would love some stack rings, lost all the ones I made.Love you, give my love to the desert ahd Tucson……..

  • MD47md says:

    Dear Mr.King,
I recently purchased the candy cane necklace and earrings. Both are very nice.I was wondering what kind of stones they are (i.e. agate, jasper)and if the stones are considered soft or hard.I like to know this kind of information so I can properly store and care for them. I know some stones require more care than others depending on what kind they are. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks-MND

    • Jay King says:

Hi sorry but I just got my laptop fixed so I can answer your questions. This is primarily a silicate. According to the GIA. The miner says its a jasper. It comes from Armondo, a freind in Mexico. He discovered it in a surface deposit outside of a mining town called Casas Grandes. He was prospecting for silver and gold at the time. Best J

  • judyinms says:

    Hi Jay,

Recently purchased your copper collar, copper triangle pendant, and twisted copper necklace and LOVE them. Could you make generic copper earrings without any stones that would go with them or with other copper necklaces? Hoops or dangles, doesn’t matter as long as they are not too big or too heavy.

    Thanks!

    Judy

    • Jay King says:

Hi sorry just got to a location where I can use a computer my laptop has given up the ghost. As far as the earring goes if you go to HSN Customer service. Enter my name. This will tell you how to contact us in a secure manner. Then we’ll help you in anyway possible or take care of you some how. The materials you mentioned are three differant unique material and it would take more room than I have to answer, but the aren’t treated in this case and shouldn’t fade. Out of room Best J

    • Jay King says:

Great idea and the answer is yes. I’m working on several designs that fit the bill on this one. Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Always nice to hear new requests. Best J

  • grandmabom says:

Dear Jay, I just wrote you, but I forgot to make a request. I just bought the Kwazulu purple haze earings and wore them yesterday for the first time with the Mongolian fluorite necklace (they look great together), however one of the earings fell off and I lost it. Would you please begin putting on all of your hook earings a small plastic backing to keep the earings in place. Nothing is worse than loosing an earing particularly if you can’t replace it. I would appreciate it very much- Barbara

  • grandmabom says:

Jay, I love your jewelry and have purchased many pieces. I have learned much about the gem world because of you. I have a large variety of your pieces but my question is what is the difference between, fluorite, lepidolite, and phosphosiderite, and are any of those stones “treated”? Will lepidolite fade? Also, I didn’t save all of those specially treated bags you include and I need some for my necklaces. Please tell me how I can get some more. thanks Barbara

  • BINGOBIMBO says:

GREETINGS MR. KING, THE PIECE I BOUGHT FROM YOU THIS PAST CHRISTMAS SHOW IS UNBELIEVABLE! THE COPPER IS SO BRIGHT AND THE COLORS IN THE TURQUOISE IS WONDERFUL. I LOVE THE LOOK OF A LOT OF MATRIX. I HAVE SOME OLD STONES IN MY RINGS AND I LIKE THE MATRIX THE BEST. MY PROBLEM IS I NEED A 24 INCH NECKLACE FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS. AND I ALWAYS HAVE TO GET SOME CHAIN ON MY PIECES. WELL I DON’T KNOW WHERE TO GET THE COPPER CHAIN EXCEPT FROM YOU, SO IT WILL MATCH. WILL YOU SELL ME SOME?LIQUID COPPER ASP

  • MD47md says:

    Dear Mr.King,
I recently bought the candy cane stone pendent and earrings. They are very nice.I was wondering what kind of stone it is and or what family of stones does this fit into i.e. jasper, agates etc. Is it a hard or soft stone? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    MND

  • JAGDKM says:

I would love to have a bracelet in abalone/black to match a necklace I purchased(large disks with onyx that came with earrings to match)! Also, please make lapis/black earrings! Its very difficult to find earrings/bracelets/etc that match your necklaces! I check each show for these and they never come up. Thanks!

    • Jay King says:

Okay I try and make matching pieces when I feel they would be hard to match. I’m sure we made earrings for the necklace you bought. If you go to HSN Customer Service and enter my name it will tell you how to contact us in a secure manner. We might have a pair in stock some where. Happy New Year. Best J

  • FUZZWORTH says:

Happy New Year, Jay, and thanks for all the beautiful things you bring us, as well as the stories that go with them! I just received the 42″ copal necklace, and found that, even at 42″, I have to use a necklace extender to enable me to double it. For maximum wearability, this necklace needs to be doubled. For the price (considerable!!) it needs to have its own clasp. This holds true for all necklaces of this length. Please consider this.

  • Jewelbeacon says:

Oh, and how about a twisted slide earring, without any beads in it, so it would match any necklace you put it on?

  • Jewelbeacon says:

Would you consider making the twisted copper slide and selling it alone? I have so many of your beaded necklaces that it would look good on, and I’m trying to watch my budget since I retired.

  • BOSSDOGG says:

Hi Jay, Happy New Year!Growing up in Tucson, I saw alot of copper jewelry.Never had much luck with it although its beauty is undenyable.I love the look of it with almost any colored stone and with turquoise it leaves me speachless. Bought the long earring with amethyst cabs.Maybe my luck has changed and I now have better copper karma.Love you, have fun in Tucson.
