New Mine Finds For May

Submitted by Jay King on May 16, 2012 – 7:23 AM195 Comments

jay king 1 300x225 New Mine Finds For MayI can’t believe it is already May. Time just seems to fly by! I’m in my home state of New Mexico this week. For the last few weeks, I’ve travelled throughout the Southwest visiting various mines and looking at new rough materials. This weekend I had the pleasure of flying over to the Kingman mine. I love to fly and I find it very relaxing, yet challenging at times. We have found a lot of new rough materials and have been designing away for this year’s last three shows. We have so many new surprises to show you, and I just can’t wait!

This brings up the subject of the upcoming May event. It kicks off on May 26th at 2 a.m. EST, and runs through Monday, May 28th. We have a big surprise coming your way at midnight on the 27th – we’ll release the Today’s Special. I’m really excited about this one and we are going to have a special on-air guest to help me launch it. Marty Colbaugh from the famous Kingman Mine will co-host the event when we release a very special turquoise to the market.

This project has been more than a year in the making, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed once you see what we have created for you. It’s a big, bold new look and I feel we will probably sell out early in the day. So, if you can take the time to tune in I think you will not be disappointed.

That’s about all for now! I want to thank all who took the time to write me and submit your thoughts and design requests. I hope you will tune in and spend some time with us as we present all the new looks for May.

Safe travels,

J

So, Jay, just to let you know, I will try to watch most of your upcoming Shows this Memorial Day weekend. I want to meet your “just like a brother”, Marty, and find out a little bit about him, and about his Kingman Mine in Arizona, and listen to both of you talk about your adventures and to see your new precious pieces! Take care, and stay safe and healthy in your travels. (I really tried to keep it short this time.) (L.O.L.) :0)

Jay, Dana said she might be tempted to buy another one of your beautiful pieces, and she really can’t afford much right now as she is getting married in July (love is so much better the 2nd time around). However,I told her I feel the same way, but I told her to watch some of them anyway,as I will be,at least just to listen to your very interesting adventures and to meet your “just like a brother”, Marty, who will be on with you at midnight on Sat.,May 27. She said she may watch a couple of them.

Hi Jay, Thanks for responding (so sweet) to all of my Blogs. It was so nice to hear from you again (and on my Birthday too)! I hope that you will want to make up some more of your precious Cypress Petrified Wood Pendants w/Necklaces, H.S.N. Item #380-471, when your material comes in sometime in the near future. I would really love to have one so much! I told Dana (husband’s R.D.H.)about your Shows this upcoming weekend. She said she is afraid to watch them. (Con’t.)

    Hi Jay,
Looking forward to your upcoming shows. Will you be having the new bowls? If so what time will they be on as you are on in Texas in the
wee hours of of the morning on your first shows. I try so hard to stay up but sometimes the sandman comes in and I miss you.
    Love all your jewels.
    Joleen in Texas

  • Jay, Can you do a long necklace in phosphosiderite or a cross similar to the cooperite cross? Also, I have taken an 18″ double strand necklace and had my jeweler restrand to a single 36″. Is it possible to offer us both length choices instead of just an 18″ double? It would be awesome!!!

  • HI JAY….I LOVE YOUR STERLING SILVER & STONE DESIGNS AND I THINK THE COPPER IS LOVELY, BUT SEEMS TO TARNISH SO FAST FOR ME. I WORE A COPPER & WHITE BEAD NECKLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR MOTHER’S DAY & THE COPPER EXTENDER CHAIN HAD DARKENED WHEN I TOOK IT OFF AND NOTICED THAT THE WHITE BEADS HAD PICKED UP BLACK STREAKING FROM THE INSIDE OF THE COPPER BAIL. I HAVE EVEN MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE COPPER DARKENING ON RINGS & CUFFS. PLEASE OFFER MORE STERLING SILVER ITEMS IN THE NEW DESIGNS. THANKS

    • Jay King says:

Gotcha and I do understand. Were doing more big and bold silver just even working like I do, which is as direct as I can unless you come to my house, the prices are going to be higher when base material cost jumped up 800 to 900% I’ll do my best for you. Thanks for watching. Best J

      • ISN’T THERE ANY ANTI TARNISH COATING YOU CAN PUT ON THE COPPER – ITS SUCH A LOVELY COLOR & BREAKS MY HEART TO SEE IT LOOKING DARKER AFTER I’VE WORN IT. I WOULD RATHER SEE BRONZE IF IT WOULD CONTINUE IN THE SAME COLOR AS MY STERLING SILVER JAY KING ITEMS DO. AND I HAVE A LOT – THE HOUSE IS BURSTING WITH JAY KING BOXES. I KEEP TRACK BY PRINTING THE PICTURE FROM HSN & PASTING IT ON THE BOX W/STONE INFO ALSO INCLUDED. THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN OF THE STONES.

    • ADBI says:

I also have the same problem as you with the copper. I’m otherwise green/black when I wear it. Then if it’s hot it runs when you sweat. I buy paste copper cleaner(the type your mom would use on copper bottom pans)be sure not to get the paste on the stones. It cleans the copper beautifully. Also you can coat the copper with clear nail polish where it touches your skin, I do this with the necklaces, but on my cuffs I get the mole foam and add to the back so it dosen’t touch my skin. Hope this helps

  • MARCIAH says:

    Hi Jay,

Thanks for talking with me during the last round of shows. I talked with you about collecting the turquoise and the chrysocolla pieces.

I noticed that some new turquoise pieces like the Chilean Turquoise and the Turquoise & Sterling Silver Copper Disc pieces state they are compressed turquoise. Is this really true? I know that it is sometimes reported in error in the description. It would be really helpful if you would state on the air if they are compressed.

    Thanks.

    Marcia

    • Jay King says:

When I say compressed its just that. It’s turquoise nuggets from the size of a dime to a quarter that are pressed together. It allows us to do some designs better. The majority of what I do isn’t. I’ll make sure and talk about this when I’m on this week. I’ll have Marty speak to it also. Thanks for the input J

      • MARCIAH says:

I want to know which pieces actually are compressed. Some turquoise on HSN.com states that they are compressed and you talk on air like they aren’t or state they aren’t. It gets a little confusing. Are the pieces I asked about above compressed or not? Does anyone check the descriptions on HSN.com to verify the information?

Also love everything you do especially the copper and turquoise. Keep up the great work!

        Marcia

  • cillymom says:

Jay, I love all your products and have been buying them for years. Having said that–please stop all the copper madness. I don’t mind some copper accents but the all copper rings just don’t work. I did order some rings but they had to go back. I am afraid over a period of time the copper would not stand up to everyday abuse. I know silver is more expensive now but for rings I would be willing to pay more. Thank you for you consideration in this matter and keep up the travels.

    • Jay King says:

Thanks copper is just really less than 20% of what we do. I agree the copper doesn’t work as ring shanks. I’m designing lots and lots of silver some big and bold but even working the magic we do I can only do so much when silver jumps from $5 to $40. That being said I feel silver will go down soon as things start to settle. I love designing in silver but I also like big and bold. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts J

      • FAL says:

NOOOOOOO!! Don’t stop the Copper – I LOVE IT. I always get compliments on all my jewelry – I buy my clothes to match my jewelry, not the other way around!! When I began buying your copper sets, people went WILD – men and women. I Loved copper before the price of silver went up, so I am glad (but still love silver, too)it is driving incredible designers to the copper market and designs. THANK YOU, JAY!!!

  • preciouswood says:

Jay, This will be the last of my inquiries and comments for a while—I promise you! (Laugh) Regarding your Cypress Petrified Wood Pendant w/Necklace, H.S.N. No. 380-471, I would really love to have this piece so much! Please let me know if you would be able to make some more of these Pendants w/Necklaces up sometime in the near future. Be careful now with all of your excursions in the air, watch those radar instruments, relax, and enjoy yourself. (L.O.L.) :0)

  • preciouswood says:

Jay, Regarding that Cypress Petrified Wood Pendant w/Beaded Necklace, I have been searching everywhere for it. Then, I found it listed on the H.S.N. Website, and it was noted that this Item is “currently out of stock”. I was wondering if you would have any more of this rough, or, if you could get a hold of this material and, possibly, make up some more Pendants w/Necklaces, exactly like this one, H.S.N. No. 380-471, again sometime in the very near future? (Con’t.)

  • preciouswood says:

Hi Jay, I hope everything is going all right with you. Do you remember that precious Cypress Petrified Wood Pendant w/18 1/2″ Beaded Necklace, H.S.N. No. 380-471, that you had available a couple of years back? I wanted to buy that gorgeous piece back then, but my husband advised me to wait another time to buy it, which I found out was a HUGE mistake for listening to him. If there are any pieces that I would love now, I am not going to wait anymore! (Con’t.)

  • Hi Jay, Could you do a longer necklace in the phosphosiderite? Your previous offerings were all short. Or a big cross in that stone similar to the cooperite cross would be awesome! Also, would you consider offering instead of just double layer 18″ necklaces, to offer the same in a single layer 36″ necklace? That way it could be offered as a “choice of lengths” but would require the same amount of material. I have on several occassions purchased the double layer 18″ and had them restrung to 36″.

  • preciouswood says:

Hi Jay, I didn’t mean to write such long messages on your last Blog Page, but I had a lot of things to tell you. I realize you have been and are very busy with preparing for your upcoming Shows on May 26 thru May 28, but I would really appreciate it if you could respond to my messages by writing just a short Blog to me, in your usual sweet way, Jay. Please don’t be afraid to express your feelings or thoughts to me. I am a very understanding person. Take care, and stay safe in your travels. :0)

  • DARA56 says:

Hi Jay! I don’t know if you remember me or not, but you “helped” me out with some earrings in September. I’m sorry to bother you again, but I have a turquoise & onyx or black agate ring of yours that I LOVE. I never hit it on anything that I’m aware of & I only wear it on occasions that it matches my outfit, but I just noticed the black strip on the bottom of the ring seems to be disinegrating. Can you help me out? Thanks!
