New Mine Finds: Bad Always Gets Better!

Submitted by Jay King on March 26, 2012 – 8:14 AM141 Comments

working in Tucson 2012 300x225 New Mine Finds: Bad Always Gets Better!Well I have to say, this has been one of the craziest road trips I can remember.

It all began right after the February event. As always, I want to say a big THANK YOU to all who tuned in and made it such a success. Also, I’d like to thank all who took the time to write and let me know their personal thoughts and feedback about what they bought. It really helps to know what you’re thinking. We are always trying to improve what we do and develop our craft to keep the line exciting and different. So, for those of you who watched the show all three days you probably were aware of the fact I was losing my voice. I set my international travel plans in December, and I had so many appointments and new mines to visit in a very short period of time – about three and a half weeks. I left on my trip after being on air at HSN in February. It really isn’t a good thing to start a major trip when you have a major sinus infection going on.

Malachite nodule before polishing 300x225 New Mine Finds: Bad Always Gets Better! So, here are just a few highlights thus far. My first stopover was in Toronto, Canada. There was a major ice storm and the airline computers went down. This created a major backup and many delays. I hadn’t made a hotel reservation and all the rooms around the airport were taken by the time I arrived. I ended up sleeping up-right in a chair for fourteen hours. To be honest, it didn’t really bother me that much, since I believe that when trips start out rough they usually end really well. Next, I got to my first starting point and it was extremely cold. Freezing is probably a better description. I left my bag with a friend and climbed aboard a small commuter plane with only what I could carry in my brief case. Things really got ugly a few days later when I ran out of coffee, snacks and clothes. I was completely miserable and in a very remote area going to even more remote places. It makes you appreciate what you have, trust me. You miss the little things most - like a mattress, a hot shower, certain foods, coffee, aspirin, eye drops – when there is no chance of obtaining them. But I have to say, this was one heck of a ride and it was only getting better each day.

jay king coasters New Mine Finds: Bad Always Gets Better! You wouldn’t believe what I found. Two brand new turquoise finds; one a spectacular, blue material; the other a natural, green, clear material. It’s like a turquoise dream come true.  I met with another miner and he showed me three new opals that are incredible. Also, someone I haven’t seen in years just happened to be staying in the same village hotel and showed me two new corals. I am so excited to share all of these new finds with you!

I’m also excited to share that the American handmade mesquite coaster sets are now available on hsn.com. These coaster sets are a true labor of love – the mesquite wood is inlayed with Kingman Turquoise on the stand and on the individual coasters. Please check them out!

My next event begins on April 4th during the 24-hour jewelry event. The we rally the troops once more for the big show on the 22nd and 23rd. I’ve got a lot of super cool, new designs for you to see, so I hope you take the time to tune in!

Until then, safe travels.

I love all your pieces, but when I opened the box with cooperite cross, I literally gasped. There was a gorgeous stroke of copper traveling down the cross — simply gorgeous, and so glad I got one of the last ones. I will wear the copper hammered hoops with this, so the attention is focused on the cross. Thanks Jay!

    Dear Mr.King,
I recently bought the Four clovers stone 3 strand necklace which I do believe to be Nevada lapis. How often to do get this stone? Also I am reluctant to purchase your copper pieces due to the oxidation of the metal & turning my skin green. How do you suggest keeping the copper and the sterling silver pieces from oxidizing? I keep your pieces in the storage bags but the silver still gets dark.Any cleaning suggestions that would not affect the stones would be appreciated. Thanks MND

    • Jay King says:

I don’t have anymore four clover stone right now but I’m going to Nevada next week to look at a mining property so I’ll check then. Any metal will oxidize, and it depends on so many things in the enviroment that make it oxidize. I recomend you wipe it with the polishing cloth and store it in the copper colored bag it comes in. If you go to customer service and enter my name it will tell you how to send us your personal info. Please send a request for a polishing cloth and we’ll send you one. J

I finally got to order the turquoise cross earrings with copper! They were “sold out” and on my wish list for months. Much to my dissapointment the customer service rep put them on the wrong card and the order could not be processed. Needless to say they “no longer exist”. Along with 2 other pairs of pants!! Please bring them back!! There isn’t another pair with the Ahui and copper that are that substantial!! Fyi I went crazy with your show this weekend. I make my husband watch it!

Hi Jay! It is awesome how you take the time to respond to people, and integrate our feedback into your work. Wonderful to have such a lovely choice of stand alone pendants (as I requested). I got the Chrysocolla copper pendant today. Last visit I picked up the 3-Row Multicolor Turquoise Beaded Copper necklace and matching bracelet in the delicate tube beads. Your bold pieces are great, but I adore your smaller items which suit me better. THANKS! Travel safely wherever you go! ~marsha~

    • Jay King says:

Hi Marsha like I said sorry it takes so long sometimes for me to reply. Usually its because I don’t have internet access, or lately it’s because I get up early fly somewhere work all day and just don’t seem to have enough time in the day to get it all done. Thanks for the ideas I do appreciate them J

  • sanfran says:

Jay, I saw your shows today and got your couple of multigemstone long necklaces. You didn’t add any bracelets or multistone rings….they would have been perfect accessories….pls. do so for the future, ok? Meanwhile, I have plotted out to see your end of May shows. Do you have a bowl, a box, or something on that line coming up? Do tell! Dying to know!!! Thanks, and keep it coming (but NOT all the new things in copper, pls..can’t wear copper..you have some great new items but not in silver!

    • Jay King says:

Okay I’ll make note of it. Have a great May event coming up. Only 20% of our line has copper in it. We’ve had to develop new metal lines to keep that big bold look but keep it affordable. I’m working on a new rose metal now. I have a blue turquoise bowl and a green turquoise bowl coming in August.Everyone seems to love them thats seen them. Best J

Jay, It is Ann from Santa Monica and it was a pleasure to speak with you on air…I wanted to ask you to consider making a heart pendant out of rose quartz that was a smaller version or like your lapis heart pendant….I am really looking forward to the golden hematite pieces in the near future…Thank you for making beautiful pieces that I can actually wear!!( I am the woman buying the 18” necklaces) Love Mookite, any Jasper, Rose quartz, Onyx, Hematite + Best wishes for some smoother trips.

  • dismith04 says:

Jay…I would LOVE to be able to buy everything you create. Since I don’t have that kind of disposable income, I would like to see you offer more of your cross and heart-shaped pendants for purchase separately (no necklace). I realize that doesn’t increase sales dollars but for some like myself it might allow me to purchase something else as well. Thank you so much for your beautiful designs and keep it coming.

    Hi Jay,
Getting ready to watch your shows and just wondering if the bowls will be on any of your shows this trip? You are on during the wee hours of the morning so wanted to know if I need to set my alarm. You know us old people have to sleep early…just don’t want to miss out.
Loving all your things as usual,
    Joleen in Texas

Jay, We may have some bad weather here in Florida this weekend—always on the weekend, darn, but you may not mind though as you will be nice and cozy inside the H.S.N. Studio talking about and showing off all of your new Mine Find jewelry. I just hope that my computer does not shut down during the thunderstorms (Heaven forbid)! Take care, be safe, and stay healthy, in your travels! (L.O.L.) :0)

  • preciouswood says:

Jay, There has been an interesting development that happened at my husband’s office this past week. I will try to write to you, when I get a chance, and let you know what happened. I will try to watch most of your upcoming Shows on Sunday, Apr. 22, and Monday, Apr. 23, so I can hear about your interesting adventures, and see some of your new Mine Find pieces that you will be showing off to everyone.

  • preciouswood says:

Hi Jay, It was so nice to hear from you last Monday, April 16. I just wanted you to know that as much as I wanted to stay on the Waitlist for your beautiful Moss Sage Opal Pendant w/Necklace, I had to choose between that piece and your precious Rose Quartz Beaded 42″ Necklace (Brazil) as I really can’t afford both of them right now. So, you know how much I love that Pastel Pink color (my favorite)—so, I am sorry, Jay, but I decided to buy this piece instead. (To be con’t.)

  • ADBI says:

Hi Jay! I see a set of studs on the website today. Is this the only set you will have in your show this weekend? I’m ready to order now but if you are going to have more I’ll just wait & BUY THEM ALL!!! LOL.I also boought your 26″ 3 row turquoise & bauhinia necklace. LOVE the mix of color. Make more necklaces just like it but in different stones. Great t-shirt necklace! LOVE IT! Will be tuning in the weekend. P.S. this Harley girl says THANKS FOR THE STUDS in advance. Best wishes to you & yours!

  • Jewelbeacon says:

Since I read that you are currently “designing up a storm” I hope you will consider making more of your pendants with the enhancer feature, like the copper heart. It makes it so much more versatile and you don’t have to worry about putting it either on a collar or a large beaded necklace. I have so many of your beads that I would like to be able to layer and use these enhancers. Thanks for always considering our requests. I’m going to have to buy more storage drawers for all the pieces I have.

  • Jay, I have to say I’ve never looked so forward to jewelry shows as I do with your Mine Finds. You rock! Would you consider a 22″ or 24″ inch 10 strand liquid copper necklace?

  • JERLEEN says:

    Hi Jay,
I am in Santa Fe and wore your Saddle Mountain necklace among others that I got from you & people stopped me on the street & asked about my jewels, especially the Saddle Mountain necklace. Everything I get from you is divine. Sales people in the stores here questioned me on my jewelry & where I got it. Keep up the good work, I love all my Jay King pieces. One day I will count & see how many I have. I received my coasters & they are especially nice.
    Joleen in Texas, stay safe.

  • margotchr says:

I have many of your pieces , love them all. But two with turquoise beads are crumbling. Is there any way to get the two crumbled beads replaced?

  • margotchr says:

I have many of your pieces…very happy. but two with turquoise beads are beginning to crumble.. Is there any way to get the two crumbled beads replaced?

  • yolie59 says:

Dearest Jay, the magnesite copper cross set is absolutely beautiful. I get so so many compliments on this set and the turquoise copper set. I really enjoy telling people the origin of all my fabulous jewelry. I also wanted to compliment you on the new copper hoop earrings I had discussed with you back in December. Thank you for always listening to your customers. Would it also be possible to create longer & more open copper hoop earrings to somewhat match the copper choker necklaces?

  • Jay, I patiently waited and watched for the Cooperite Cross and earrings to become available on the HSN website. I am so thankful a few folks ordered several and returned some so that I could snatch them up! Please do more stones in this exact footprint including the earrings! The size and style are perfect!! I would love to see some of the opals done like these or some of your purple stones. Would you consider?

  • Jewelbeacon says:

I just ordered the cooperite cross and can’t wait to get it. I seem to remember you said you get this rough from someone very rarely. Where is it from?

  • shine111 says:

    Hi Jay,
I’m an avid collector of the rare gemstones and you do bring us a lot of rare gems!
However, I’m a GUY and cannot wear those jewelry pieces u make for women with those rare stones and i miss out on all of them :(
    My solution:
Can you make SPHERES (25mm or even smaller) with those rare gemstones so we can ALL collect them? Thanks kindly, Simon

  • Rocksrgreat says:

Howdy Jay! I enjoyed your shows the other day on HSN. I ordered your 42″lapis bead necklace which looks great! I’m just wondering if you could produce other bead necklaces in a 19″length, with 12-14mm beads in various materials such as lapis, petrified wood,& botswana agate,& Amethyst…for starters. Also, I like 44″ beads WITHOUT the sterling silver clasp…makes it easier to put on for layering pieces. Thanks Jay & Easter blessings to you & your family.
