December Finds
Well here they are again—the holidays once more! I can’t believe how fast they’ve come around, and how much I have to be thankful for.
We’re now in full swing ramping up for 2010. I’ve been making travel plans and setting up appointments with all our friends attending Quartzsite and the Tucson Gem Show. For some of those miners and prospectors it’s the only chance we will get to see them for a whole year. I just can’t wait to get started.
At this point we’re already finishing up on designs for April and May of 2010. I have to tell you I’m so excited about what we have to offer in the New Year.
I feel like a little kid at times. Some people who know me well, say I act like one at all times. I just can’t wait to release this year’s December Today’s Special. I feel it’s one of the greatest designs we have ever had the pleasure of offering. I also know that you like to hear all about the “Mine Finds” coming up for December, so here they are:
Aztec Jasper: This “find” is from the Southwest corner of Idaho. This is a beautiful matrix stone. When the miner looked at the design in the stone he couldn’t help but be reminded of art work, and he felt it looked a lot like Aztec artwork from Mexico—that is why he chose to name it “Aztec Jasper”.
Bauhinia: This “find” is from Vietnam. This material was named for its color that resembles that of the Bauhinia flowers. Many species of Bauhinia are planted in the tropics and are commonly known as orchid trees.
Californite Happy Camp: This “find” is from California. Californite was found when the miners where panning for gold in a stream. The rough is all hand gathered and a lot of it was located by snorkeling in the stream to locate larger boulders.
Pilbara: This “find” is from Australia. Pilbara Picasso Jasper is a new material that is beautifully patterned. It comes from only one location in Australia, therefore there is only a very limited quantity of the material available.
Porcelean Opalite: This “find” is from Utah. Porcelean Opalite comes to us from a family that loves to rock hunt together. This material was mined in a valley with rolling hills.
Purple Orbicular Rhyolite: This “find” is from Arizona. This Rhyolite is very unique, when the rock was forming, there were gas bubbles and this is what helped to create the perfect circles that you see inside of the stone.
Queensland Petrified Wood: This “Find” is from Queensland Australia. Petrified woods are some of my favorite materials to work with. Queensland was once a “conifer” tree that died and then was buried over many years and thru the help of minerals and sediments it became petrified. This petrified wood was brought to us from a collector and is a very limited offering.
Please tune in December 26th, 27th and 28th to see our latest creations.
I want to send out a very heartfelt THANK YOU!!! to everyone who supported myself and our team this year. As I always say, without our viewers we couldn’t do what we truly love to do.
I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and New Year.
Safe travels,
J

Answers to Questions:
Eileen, IN Yes, I’ve been to the Larimar mine. It only comes from that one location. The lore is it has something to with the lost city of Atlantis. This is the only location I’m aware of. They get very small quantities and it’s very expensive. J
Patti, NV I’m so glad you’re happy with the bowl. That always makes us even happier. The earliest you can expect the Lapis bowl is in February, but I can’t guarantee it. We’re looking for all kinds of new rough to work with. Thanks for your interest. J
Katie, AZ Hi glad you like the bowl. The answer is “yes”. We hand buff all these. The original master bowl was much more rustic. J
Cris, NY Thanks for your support. I can’t wait to show our December TS. It’s a great design and a ridiculous value. Happy Holidays. J
Toni, TX I’m so happy you like it. We’re working on material for the lapis bowl. J
Elly, KS Thanks for your input. We have shot b-roll of them being made and we will share that on a future show. J
Lorn, MI Right now I don’t have anymore of the rough. I will be making a lot more rings in 2010. J
Linda, NY I’m glad you love it. That was a crazy price and great buy. We both share the love of turquoise. J
Mary, FL Thanks you so much for your input. J
SG, KY So many questions, so little time. We are working on the bowls not. I wish I could give you an answer. I will give you a heads up on the show or blog when I know. I’m on Dec. 26, 27 and 28. Wait till you see the TS. J
Tami, MI Thanks your support. I can’t say we will have those exact earrings again. I am designing with more tigers-eye for this upcoming year. J
Devo, CA Thanks for your comments. We are now doing stand alone pendants and enhancers. Unfortunately I can’t do it with everything. In almost every case because of packaging, freight, shipping and handling it would cause the prices to have to increase. J
Star, MN Thank you for your support. Happy Holidays. J
Deborah, CA Sorry that happened. I do stand behind everything I sell. If you want you can go to Customer Service keyword Jay King. Send us a letter with your information and we will take care of you. J
Margie, OR Thanks so much for your input we are working on some really cool garnet earrings and necklaces at this time. J
Ney, FL Thanks, I can’t believe you got three. Glad you like them. We’re working on the lapis now. J
Li, CA All I can tell you is this. I haven’t put water in mine, but I wash it out now and then. We have several in my house. J
Liz, TX Sounds like you’re married to a smart man. All I can say is you might want to check out the February TS. J
Joey, AR Thanks so much for letting me know of you’re new find. Without looking at it and having some rough material, it’s almost impossible to identify it. Sounds interesting. J
Donna, IL Thank you so much. We all with you a Happy Holiday. J
Pat, NC Thanks for your support. We’re working on the Lapis Bowls. I need more elves. J
E, CA Thanks we share the same feelings for stones from childhood. I’ll think about doing a star necklace. J
Maggie, IL Thanks for the support. Happy Birthday! Must be hard, since, Christmas and Birthday presents come almost at the same time. Happy Holidays! J
Susan, PA First of all Happy Birthday! I’m glad you loved the bowl. We’re working on new bowls now, but it takes time to gather this much material. I’ll keep you posted. Learning something new is always fun! J
Patti, NV Thanks, Happy Birthday! The lapis bowls will be next year. Hopefully in February. Right now I do not know. J
Thanks we share the same feelings for stones from childhood.

Jay,I absolutely love your jewelry & have at least 100 pieces. When you’re on the air I have a hard time deciding what to buy because I want it all.I have never had a problem with any pieces until the turquoise ribbed saddle ring(176-260)I bought on 5/27/12-the 2nd time I wore it one of the pieces of turquoise fell off-I didn’t lose it, but am wondering if it can be fixed? It is one of the most unique rings I have & I love it & don’t want to give it up. Please help if possible.Thank you.
Someone mentioned to me that your jewelry is made in China? Is this true?
Hi Jay
Would you consider printing a catalog identifying the unique stones you use? It would be even better if you would include a little bit of those wonderful stories attached to the finds. That way years down the line when I’m going through my rapidly growing collection I can enjoy them all over again.
Ever since I was a little I loved collecting “pretty stones”. They were my affordable treasures. Stumbling across your line bought me back to a childhood joy.
I “LOVED” the copper jewerly tonight !!! I honestly did’nt think I would… I thought “what is Jay doing” ? The more I watched, the more I understood what you were doing… I could’nt afford to buy anything tonight and may not for a long time… But…. as soon as I can, I am adding that copper collar and one of your stunning pendants…. Thank you Jay for creating such beauty ! I suffer from depression, and your jewelry brings me such joy !!! You are a true blessing :-)
I love the copper jewelry too. just received the Brazilian red dunes cuff bracelet which is FAB. I can “bend” the copper somewhat to fit it more snugly on my wrist, but will the copper stand up to repeated “bending” over time?
HEY WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE SILVER I;AM NOT A COPPER FAN A GIRL WANTS THE REAL STUFF I KNOW I DO.
Erika MI
Jay King, are you bringing the lapis or turquoise bowl back? PLAESE……
Great blog…
Thanks for the sensible critique. Me and my friend were just preparing to do a little research about this. We grabbed a book from our area library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such wonderful info being shared freely …
Love your pieces! I would love to see a multi strand necklace in orange calcite or a bloodstone.
As a crystal healer I feel like a kid in a candy store! Your designs and selections are amazing. But what I love is how you combine the different stones which enhance their healing ability. Since you have been a collector for so long I’m sure you know the ancient healing properties of these stones. It would be cool to list some of the properties with the item descriptions. Great job and can’t wait for more new yummy designs!
Love all of your jewelry and have much of it. Is the Jay King jewelry on ebay authentic — from places like Ohio and N Mexico? Also would enjoy hearing more about your family & personal life if you wish to share. Happy Summer !!
Jay, I have a necklace that has one broken stone. Where do I send it to be repaired? The necklace came with a pendant but the pendant is not broken. Do I have to send the pendant with the necklace? The necklace is item# 482-459 (Pear-Shaped Turquoise Sterling Silver Pendant with 18-1/4″ Beaded Necklace)
Jay,
Where can I send my necklace to have it restrung? It broke while on my neck, and you say on the air you stand behind your products. This has never happened before with any of your pieces. Thanks for your help. Lu in Palm Springs.
Jay, love your things and I have many pieces. One of the first necklaces I bought many years ago was a multi strand colors of turquoise necklace. The clasp has broken and I have been unable to wear it. Tonight, you informed a caller with the same problem to get on hsn.com and go to your website and it would tell her how to proceed. The only way I saw to contact you to find out how to return the piece for repair was this blog. I look forward to knowing how to proceed. Thank you.
Jay,
RE: Obsidian
As a great fan of your mine finds, I would like to see more items made in other countries than China….not just you, but the rest of the retailers in America also. I buy American first, China last.
As kids in Albuquerque we collected Apache Tear Drops in Old Town, really cheap, even polished. I would like to see more Obsidian items from you, maybe made in Mexico or USA. Obsidian Please!
Stones, rocks, etc are wonderful. I’m glad that you enjoy your work.

I’m hoping you make more bowls. I had to pass on the one in May because of my friend. She passed on July 20th. I would like to see them again and also order one for her 17 year old daughter she left behind. Any type of bowls are absolutely beautiful. PLEASE make more. ALSO leaver back earrings. I loose too many wire type earrings. Thanks Jay for the wonderful jewelry. Lisa in Indiana
Just wanted to say that I LOVE your stuff!! If I could I would own everything you make! I really love the turquoise in the blues, but like it all. I know HSN has flex pay on some stuff, but wish it was on all of it and more of them, cause I would have more of your stuff! I also would love one of the bowls, but have never had the chance to get one. Is there a way to know when you will have them?
Jay stay safe, and keep up the wonderful work! God Bless You Always!!
Jay, I love your jewelry. I always get comments on your jewelery and all my natural stones sets. Could you please make more lapis earrings and also Red agate or Cornelia? Its the hardest color too match. I was unable to get the matching earrings and now can not match it w/ anything. Please keep up the good work. Would love to get on the list for the turquoise or lapis bowl. I didn’t even see online. I have to watch for it the next time.
Thank You!
I saw the lapis bowl the other day and I hurried and ordered it. Right after I had ordered it I got a call from a dear friend of mine that found out she had cancer in the brain and when they operate next week it may leave her without speech. SO I cancelled my order and decided to try to help her and her 17 year old daughter out. I hated missing out on this beautiful bowl BUT felt at this time that the money I would have spent can help her out. Please make more in the near future, Lisa
I am enjoying your pieces so much. I have two necklaces and one bracelet that you said was a combination of many stones from other jewelry designs. What do you call them?
Hi Jay
Wanted: a pair of Rainbow Calsillica earrings to match the beautiful necklace I purchased from you this December.. you do have a ring that matches, but please do nice big earrings???
Thanks so much!!!!
Hi Jay,
I love your pieces, and own quite a few. Your fascinating to listen to and pleasant to watch.. I have a question for you. I grew up with my folks owning a jewelery store in China Town San Francisco, and then in Carmel California. I adore watermelon Tourmaline. Will you ever be working with this or coming across any in the near future?? I want a nice big junk set in silver to go on a necklace… Please??? Thanks my friend.. Kim
Thank you for a wonder weekend of shopping. I loved the jewerly and purchased six pieces. My ears are not pierced and I was unable to find any earrings you offered in a clip style. Do you make them? Are they just not offered at HSN? Please let me know Thanks again
My mother and I love your jewelry but the posts on your earrings are too short they pinch our earlobes and the backs so small that if you have fingernails they are almost impossible to put on
Happy New Year, Jay
I continue to enjoy your jewelry as usual.LOVE IT!! When we’ll we see some ABALONE sets in your collection? And what about some red tiger’s eye rings again? Good luck on your new trips and stay safe.
