Adventures with Jay King: Sometimes Going Home is the Best Trip Yet
Well, here it is the first of November. I find myself in a hotel on the other side of the world. I have to say I’ve traveled most of my adult life, and I still find it quite fascinating. I love meeting new people, seeing other cultures and how they live on a day-to-day basis. It’s fun and always interesting. I’ve been on the run for most of October, and will be gone the greater part of this November.
November is always a great month for me, because it kicks off the holidays for me. I have to say one of the greatest things is Thanksgiving dinner. This trip has been a long hard one, and I won’t bore you with the details of some of the things I’ve eaten. Let’s just say that I’m looking forward to coming home and cooking with my family and friends. This year I’m spending it with some special people. I’m frying a turkey, and our friends are doing the rest. It is a great American tradition, and a great way to pig out on your favorite foods without feeling guilty–my kind of holiday.
I’ve got lots of special treats in store for you this month. First of all, I’ll be offering the new turquoise and lapis mosaic inlay bowls. These are brand new and it’s taken months and months of long hard days to finally make this happen. We’ve taken giant mussel shells and inlayed one in genuine turquoise and another in genuine lapis. These are completely handcrafted and very unique. We will release them about three days before my November visit. So if you want one you might want to shop early. I don’t have a lot of them, so I don’t expect them to last long.
The second big news is that I have a very special new travel jewelry portfolio. It’s perfect for travel or just a great way to organize your jewelry for when you’re on the go. A good friend of ours designed this, and when I saw it I just had to have one. We will also be offering this before the show but they are limited and I think they will sell quickly also.
My November visit is scheduled for Saturday, November 26th. I kick it off at 2AM until 5AM EST. We then finish up at 5pm to 7pm that evening. I think it’s going to be loads of fun, and I can’t wait to show you all the new designs and materials we have to offer. This will be my last visit before the holidays, and I won’t return until the last three days of December. I hope you can take a minute to stop in and see what’s new.
Until then, Happy Turkey Day and safe travels.
J

Hi Jay, I just love watching you on HSN. You have such enthusiasm for your beautiful jewelry. I just ordered the Chilean Turquoise sterling silver necklace and ring and I can’t wait to see them in person. They are gorgeous! I have a question about the Red Skin Turquoise Inlay Sterling Silver Band Ring Item 136-496 that I bought in October 2011. One of the stones came out and I was wondering if there was anything that your team could do to replace the stone. I just love that ring but unfortunately I can’t wear it anymore and it was expensive. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
Hi Jay,
Will you ever offer buffalo stone jewelry? I know there’s stuff out there that’s really howlet (sp?) being palmed off as buffalo stone but if it came from you, I’d know it was real. I also know buffalo stone is not turquoise and since that is your speciality, I wonder if you’d want to expand your stone to include buffalo stone?
Loved your 3 days with is this month. Look forward to the April visit. Jay I have many of your gorgeous pieces but I need some basic earrings with clips. I don’t have pierced ears and when I go to wear some of them I don’t have earrings that will go. I could have purchased many more pieces if you had clip on earrings. I especially need a pair of green anhui, right now. I have several things in that and am struggling. I just purchased the pink snow necklace that would need some as well. A pair of silver and copper would be great too. Also a pair of lapis and silver. Thanks for all you do and for your great quality and design. Please get us some clip-ons.
Hi Jay King, I never miss one of your HSN shows and must have at least about 75 pieces from collecting over the years. Particularly I love fossils, amber, petrified wood, things like that . . . so I was wondering if you have ever considered using Petoskey Stones from Upper Michigan? I think your leopard ocean jasper looks somewhat like Petoskey Stones so I was wondering if you could ever use them. I am from the U.P. and spent my early years as a rock hound – beautiful agates in the U.P.
I have many pieces of your beautiful jewelry, and of course, I purchased more tonight from HSN. Thank you for your beautiful designs and great information you give us about the different stones. My question is that I am a flutist, and I noticed your copper Kokopelli pin on your lapel. Would you ever consider making something with the Kokopelli theme? Perhaps, it could be made of copper? Thank you for allowing us to chat with you! I receive many compliments on your designs!
Hi Jay, just wanted to let you know that the shell bowls are gorgeous. Also, I have about 35-40 necklaces and always get lots of compliments…Have 2 questions: 1) a bead on one of my older necklaces is starting to crack crumble. Where do I send the necklace to to get this bead fixed/replaced? And, 2) is it possible to re-size a ring and make it smaller? I’ve lost some weight and the ring keeps falling off. Please advise. Thanks. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family…Lisa
First I would like to say thanks for the products that you bring to HSN. I do have a request if at all possible please make smaller pendants and beaded necklaces for the petite ladies.
Also there is one item that I really must have for my collection (Jay King “Arrowhead” Amber Sterling Silver Pendant and 18″ 2-Row Necklace Item: 551-395). If nothing else please consider bringing in more of these. Thanks and I will be watching.
Thanks for taking the time to give us your input it is valuable to us. We actually do many more petite designs as of late. I do get several requests for smaller designs. I tend to design big because thats just me, but everyone is important to us and I have several smaller designs in the works. I’ve done the arrowhead in a few differant color combinations but I still have a few more coming down the road. Happy Holidays J
Jay,
I am a brand new customer as of September/October of this year. I love the turquoise, the mookite, the carved ginger flower stone, and the moonstone!!! I even got my hubby to get me your jewelry for Christmas!!!! Can you give us a hint as to what is coming up for your January HSN show?? I need to start planning!!
THANKS
GG
I’m traveling this month and you know your in trouble when you ask if they have WiFi and the reply is, whats that? Welcome to our show. I think the one thing you’ll find with us theres always lots and lots of new surprizes each event. They are slow posting my new blog this month. But my show dates are December 29th, 30th, and 31st. We have lots of new, new ,new. So hope you can tune in Happy Holidays. J
Hi Jay,
Cannot wait to see your shows the end of the month. Spent three days in Albuquerque, got lots of wonderful goodies and was hoping to see you. I missed the bowls on your show so am hoping you will do them again, I know they will be higher priced but am willing to pay as I have so many of your things and need one to finish out my collection.
Loved the store and I was the best customer I think.
You have a wonderful Christmas and see you the week after.
Joleen from Texas, Coasters????
OK, have your two sizes of turquoise bowls, the lapis bowl, the box with turquoise vein running through it, the various onyx bowls, and the turquoise and lapis shells….so, what’s next????? I also bought your turquoise nugget pendant but it was too small; returned it and hope you will go back to your “big sized” stones….turquoise nugget pendant! My whole jewelry is full of your beauties, and I still find room for more……love, love, love them! thank you for pursuing your dreams, Jay!
Sorry I’ve tried several times to reply to you but never seems to make it thru. I went thru 2000lbs of nuggets and selected the biggest available. Bowls and boxes in the works now. Check out what I have for the December event. They will be new coasters made in the USA and inlayed with Kingman turquoise. I have the original on my bar at home. It seems to be a big hit whenever anyone sees it. So I think they will go fast. Happy Holidays J
I love the Wild horse (jasper?)…it was the most amazing solid grey! Unfortunately, the curving band actually dug into my finger and I had to return it. I hope you make more of this pure grey stone, as it is a super complement to many outfits I have. I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves the pure colors in your stones! Will be watching you at the end of December…even saved some of my coupons from the HSN games to use then……I tend to say “only one purchase” and end up with a dozen!
Hi Jay & Merry Christmas! I buy as much of your jewelry as I possibly can. I do have a request. I ordered a pair of the malichite & mother-of-pearl heart shaped earrings, on a “check” pymt. The mail was slow & they cancelled my earrings, when the check arrived they were completely out of stock. I have the BEAUTIFUL necklace that matches. I’m Born on Valentines day & I have green eyes. PLEASE tell me I can purchase a pair. I have repeatedly tried & cant. An OLD VALENTINE. Sue-Rita
I love hearing things like this. Being born on Valentines day must be great. It also is good for your better half since it would be easy to remember your birthday and also kill two birds with one stone in the gift giving department.Go to Customer Service and enter my name. This will tell you how to contact us with your personal info in a secure manner. Or go to HSN.com and sometimes they will pop up. Happy Holidays J
Jay, I just got the mosaic shells in…both the lapis and the turquoise. These are so unique. I can’t quit looking at them. And feeling them, too. This was a very cool idea. You have such a creative team. I’ve never seen anything remotely like these. LOVE ‘EM!
I’m so glad you got them and both as well. I have my original proto types in my house and everyone who visits wants to take them home. I won’t be able to bring these back, at that price anyway. After all was said and done they needed to be almost twice the price. So congrats Happy Holidays, always nice to hear from you.
Hi Jay–
I love watching your shows and have bought many items from you. Two questions–can you do some shorter necklaces? 18 inches is too long for me (I am average size–10) to wear with open neck shirts in the summer. I put the hook between the stones to make the necklaces shorter, but I worry about the security of necklace when worn that way, and that it might stretch out the soft flex. Also, can you do more enhancers so they can go on necklaces that don’t have clasps. You’re great!
I do smaller collars in 16 inch. I want to thankyou because this is great feedback. I keep making everything a little bigger. Thats just me, probably a guy thing. I’ve always gone for the over kill when I do most anything. Thanks for taking the time to give me your input. Best J
Hey Mr.King,
Hope all is well.I recently purchased the forest hunter stone ring and earrings.I am a bit confused ,the description on the web says it was mined in China however, when I listened to your presentation of the necklace you reported that a friend was hunting in the US and came upon it.Which country is this stone found? It appears to be a nice stone just want some clarification. Thanks-MND
It’s from the US. I’m sorry we do so many new things as you know and sometimes our wires get crossed. I’ll make sure and get this corrected. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Happy Holidays. J
I ordered some copper jewelry from another good company that I really like but it turned immediately and turned me black and green or many multi colors. Can you please tell me what is wrong with me or with copper. I love it but I don’t like the color change or turning my skin all different colors. Thanks in advance
Well nothing is wrong with you at all. As you know we all react to differant things with our skin in many ways. Copper like any metal silver or gold for that matter will oxidize. You might have a higher acid content which will make it oxidize faster. I wear a copper bracelet for balance and after a long workout or stressfull day it will turn my skin black also. All I do is wipe it with a polishing cloth and put it in the anti tarnish bag at night. I wear it daily. Best J
Oh my, oh my, oh my! I snagged one of your turquoise shell inlay bowls! I am so excited I can hardly type! I am a December baby and have longed for one of your bowls and I ordered this sight unseen AND I had a coupon as well! Happy Birthday to me! This is not my first purchase and will certainly not be my last.
Jay, your items are so well done and truly unique. Thank you for bringing them to us. I hope you and your family have a Blessed and Wonderful Holiday Season!
Christine
Thanks so much. Please let me know how you like the new bowl. These are a mosiac inlay of genuine turquoises from several mines, so they are not just one color. I made a serious mistake pricing these so you got a once in a liftime deal. They aren’t as big as the other bowl I did but have alot more work in them. I have the proto types in my house and everyone wants to take them home when they come over. Happy Holidays J
Hi Jay – received my bowl…it is simply stunning! It is truly a work of art. I can only imagine how long it took the artisans to place each turquoise inlay piece. Today is my birthday and as I sit and type this it is on the desk with me. I will treasure this piece and honor it. Thank you for bringing us such unique beauty to grace our lives. Happy Holidays to you and your family.
Christine
Saturday is YOURS, Jay! Wednesday, when the bowls became available, got them both! Also, one of all your bowls and the box! What’s coming next?? Meanwhile, how do I get a matching carnival stone ring? Also, a red crazy lace ring?? Do I need to contact your store? What about some gaspeite? What about a Jay King cruise?? We’d go for that, too! Others from HSN have had them and they were successes and fun for all! Well, I already got several new items and will watch you for the stories!! See ya!
I’m glad you got the bowls. I made a serious mistake pricing them so I hope you like them. I couldn’t do them again at that price. You sound like you have alot more energy than me and thats alot of energy, or so they tell me. The cruise sounds good but I’m not sure how to do it. There’s lots of places I’ve been that I’d like to cruise back to. Happy Holidays. J
Happy Thanksgiving to you AND TO ME!! I just ordered both the of bowls.I can’t wait to get them. They will look lovely with the turquoise bowl I bought 2 years ago when I bought my new house. Even the operator said she would have to put it on her list. There is no item # on the page, but for everyone’s info the turquoise is#150790 and the lapis is #150793. Next piece maybe onyx? Or a smaller turquoise bowl? Can’t wait to see what new pieces you will be bringing us this week when your on. Lisa
I’m glad you got the bowls Lisa. This will be the one and only time you’ll see them. After we did them we realized how much time and material went into them. I could never make them at this price again. I’ve got lots of surprises still to come this weekend. Have a wonderful holiday. I just made the best turkey ever. Best Jay and Crew

Hi Jay! Love your two new pieces, made out of “water sky blue” and “cotton candy” stones. Please tell me (my usual question), what types of stones they are. Love your carnival stone which is a tourmaline base. What category are each of the new ones? I’m frustrated cuz I’m missing your next show — but will be on vacation in St. Croix (can’t complain about that). Safe travels! ~marsha~
Sorry for taking so long I’ve been traveling and needed to look at the GIA reports on these two materials. We do these names when we have a mix of minerals that aren’t on particular material. In this case Cotton Candy comes from a remote region in Northwestern China. It is a form of Chalcedony. The Water Sky Blue is a form of agate that we found in Africa. This undergoes a heat treat process that takes six weeks to cure. Have fun in St. Croix, I’ve flown in for fuel there many times. J
Jay I just wanted to tell you I ordered the Bloodstone necklace on your last visit and it is so pretty. I would love to see something in an 18 inch in the bloodstone. Anything in black onyx coming up? Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends, and can’t wait to see you on H.S.N with your bowls. Be safe, Lisa
Blood stone isn’t easy to find and when I do run across it the price is usually very high. I’m going to Africa soon and I’ll look for a source there. I do have more black agate and onyx necklaces coming up. The shell bowls are very unique and this will be a one shot deal. After we made these the price almost doubled if I want to do it again. Kinda under estimated the amount of work involved on this first go round. Best J
I’am a new to your wonderful works of art!!! I fell in love with everything that you do , around 2 years ago. I do have a ring that i purchased on 2/21/11. It is a beautiful piece turquoise and silver. I have worn it , maybe 4 times. Well, the stone fell out while i was in a hospital see my newborn, Great Grand Son. I sent it back to HSN. They are sending it back to me.You have said many times to send it back, and you would fix it if you could. I love the ring!!! Could you help me?? Thanks
Well congrats on the new grand baby. I’ll always take care of you on anything you buy from me. Just go to HSN Customer Service. Enter key word Jay King. It will tell you how to send us your personal information in a secure manner. Then we will tell you how to send it to us and I’ll fix it for you. Have a great day. J
Can’t wait for your Nov. show-wish it wasn’t starting SO EARLY in the morning!!Need to remind myself to check online now&then so I don’t miss whien the inlay bowls are posted. One question-some of the earlier bowls which I missed out on look like they are carved out of a single piece of rough??I was wondering if you’d ever thought of doing decorative bowls out of agate or other stones that are gorgeous but less rare? (is agate too hard to make carved bowls affordable?)Stay healthy&thanks! Sue
Hi Sue great questions. I’ve always said great minds think alike so we must have great minds. Or in my case great mine. I’ve already done one onxy bowl and it sold out. I’m working on other materials now. I’m in the process of training people to carve bowls but it takes awhile. I hope you get one of the new shell bowls when they come up. Best J
Hi Jay!
I love love love your jewelry! Every piece is gorgeous
By the way I’m new to your profile and want to know who is Kenna in the picture? Is she your lovely wife?
No Kenna is already taken. We are old friends and she runs my company for me. Because of her and all the others in my group I’m allowed to travel and do what I do. Best J
All the girls that work for you are wonderful. So cheerful when ever you meet them or talk to them on the phone.
When we were in Albuquerque in November the ones in the store were wonderful.
Joleen from Texas
Hi Jay! I bought the African Rainbow Feldspar necklace when originally aired. Like the necklace but had to send back as one of the bottom beads was drilled in the wrong place and threw the necklace off balance. Unfortunately they were sold out. I am now reordering. However…can you do the Feldspar (same shape of beads) perhaps in a 24 – 30″ length. Love the longer necklaces. Also the polychrome jasper in a longer length with round beads. Please??
See you next weekend on TV.
Thanks for giving me a heads up. Sorry that happened we usually catch anything like that before it goes out. Each piece is looked at for quality after it’s finished three differant times. I’ve just designed more polychrome, because I’m doing the last of the rough material I have now. I did do a longer necklace. I’m in Albuquqerque next week and I’ll see what I did. I know that sounds stupid but I’ve been a designing fool as of late. Were finishing up on April and May of next year. Best J
