Hi Sewing Friends,

Value Added Feet = Value Added Options!

Did you know that HSN offers the largest accessory packages with their sewing machines than anywhere else?  Having additional presser feet on hand saves time and expands your sewing horizon. Considering that most feet have multiple purposes, it makes sense to purchase a machine with a large accessory bundle to maximize your creativity!  This month’s Today’s Special (Aug. 2nd) is a perfect example — with 20 bonus presser feet!

For example, with the Double Welt Cording Foot you’ll be able to:

  1. Sew single welt cord snugly from either side of the presser foot
  2. Make a double welt cord to use as trim on accessories and upholstery.

Directions

Snap on the Double Welt Cording foot. Simply stitch the first cord, lay the second cord next to it and wrap the remaining fabric over the cord and stitch in place down the center running the presser foot over both cords. The cord will fit nicely in the slots under the foot. Use your duckbill appliqué scissors to trim the leftover fabric. The raw edge will be buried underneath the cording when it’s attached.

  • The Blind Hem foot will give you appliqué options in quilting and attaching lace as well as hamming your slacks!
  • The Beading foot can sew on beads, pearls or rhinestones by-the-yard!
  • The Button Attachment foot will help you sew on buttons, anchor shoulder pads and hold up cuffs!

For example, with the Sew, Cut and Serge Foot you’ll be able to:

  1. Make flat lock seams. The top area is a stretch zigzag and the bottom portion is the underside of the zigzag.
  2. Sew, Cut and Finish off the seam making a faux serged edge

Directions

Remove the presser foot and ankle. Using a screwdriver, secure the Cutter foot onto the shank being sure to position the lobster claw clasp over the needle bar. Cut a slice 1.5″ from the edge of the fabric where you want the seam to be trimmed. Open the slice and place the fabric layers under the presser foot to the left of the cutter and the smaller cut portion to the right of the cutter. Lower the presser foot. Select a wide sweeping stitch with stitch width at 6-7mm to clear the foot’s stitch finger.

  • The Teflon foot will help you to glide over vinyl, leather and plastic!
  • The Roller foot will stitch over stretch knits, fleece and faux fur!

For example, with the Quarter Inch Quilting Foot you’ll be able to:

  1. Sew even consistent 1/4″ seams for quilting
  2. Sew a small 1/4″ grid for an interesting surface texture

Directions

For Quilting–Line up the edge of your quilt squares with the edge of your 1/4″ presser foot. For the mini grid–Mark the first row in the direction you want to sew.  Line up each subsequent row by lining up the edge of the presser foot with the previous line. The needle penetration will be 1/4″ from the last row.

  • The Walking foot will keep multiple layers together when you’re quilting and also help you match plaids, stripes and sew velvet!
  • The Darning/ Embroidery foot will allow freehand movement for thread painting, stippling and free-motion monogramming!
