5 Minutes With Twiggy: Summer Fashion

What inspired the style sense of your Summer 2012 collection?
My summer collection is all about beachy travel and beautiful prints! I focused my pieces around gorgeous fabrics that just feel great on the body and are perfect for your summer-time getaways. I’ve updated silhouettes of both my own and customer picks in fun prints and colors.
What are your thoughts on color-blocking?
Color-blocking still has a presence in fashion but I think it is more thought out and strategic rather than having a complete collection with color blocking. It is very flattering on the body when designed correctly, like my “Colorblock T-Shirt” for June. The colors change at the perfect spot on the torso to make you look long and lean.
What are your favorite patterns this season?
There is nothing I love more than gorgeous prints! I would have to say I am really enjoying the Ikat print right now. The mixing of patterns in a patchwork print is real lovely. Also, you can never go wrong with a great floral print!
What do you love about the transition from spring fashion to summer fashion?
Accessories!
What is the best style strategy for the seasonal transition? Layering? Dresses?
A dress can definitely take you from season to season because it really is all about the way you put it together. A little shift dress paired with espadrilles and a hat make style fun for summer. Then you can throw on your favorite leather moto jacket and boots and you have a fabulous winter outfit. It really is about having great staple pieces in your wardrobe to work with.
What one item would you encourage fans to invest in for the seasons?
A great maxi dress! Maxis are lovely for the Spring and Summer time, because they are so easy and airy to wear. I love color and I have a gorgeous “Ombre Maxi” coming in June. The July collection I am working on offers more beautiful maxi-length dresses to update your summer wardrobe.
Do you have any plans for travel coming up? Where to?
I’m always travelling. Including my trip to Florida for HSN this year we are planning a holiday visit to Bermuda with family. I’ll be able to wear some of my lovely summer holiday clothes.
Women tend to over-pack. What are the best items to pack when travelling during the Spring or Summer? How many shoes?
When traveling in the summertime, I always try to pack things that are easy. I love a great lounge pull on pant and an easy top that I don’t have to fuss with. I always make sure that I pack comfortable shoes, because I never know what I will be getting myself into! You can never go wrong with a great pair of flats or wedges for the summer.
In your March blog, fans mentioned your Union Jack Bag and moto jacket. Any thoughts about bringing these items back? Substitute recommendations?
I am always looking for new ways to incorporate my beloved Union Jack in my collection. And as this is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year it’s even more significant. I have a fabulous Union Jack Capsule in the works for summer. Please be on the lookout for my new Union Jack pieces!
I love a great jacket! I have a few ideas up my sleeve for fall. I think if you loved the moto, you will love the new silhouette I have come up with!
