5 easy solutions

Submitted by Colleen Lopez on January 13, 2009 – 4:29 PM30 Comments

If your jewelry collection is starting to look like a tangle of treasure - it’s time to de-clutter!

Every January I like to reorganize my “bounty” and rediscover hidden jewels in my own jewelry boxes.

I have 5 easy solutions for organizing your collection now, so you will enjoy your pieces for a lifetime.

1)  Start by weeding through everything - sorting the like items together (rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces).  Then sort by size and color (silver, gold, gemstone pieces together; small and large pieces together).

2)  Make a pile of items that need repair.   Put aside things you plan to give away and throw away those mismatched and hopelessly broken items that have seen better days!

3)  Keep very valuable items and family keepsakes where you won’t lose track of them.  Create a file of appraisals and receipts for your more expensive pieces.

4)  Don’t forget: Out of sight, out of mind.  Our Prestige “window” boxes are the perfect solution for viewing your collections at a glance. Another benefit:  your silver, vermeil and gold will all stay tarnish free!

If your necklaces look like an unsightly nest of knots, our necklace box is a great solution. For cuffs, bracelets and watches the two level box is a must-have. Prestige ring box = A ring lovers dream!

5)  Finally, put your “wearable art” on display….Busts, trees, and jewelry holders are another great way to enjoy your beautiful adornments.

Answers to Questions

Greetings to Rita in Redwing, Minnesota – I love Red Wing (they are known for their pottery) and I still have some beautiful pieces of pottery I purchased there more than 20 years ago.  We had a wonderful time in Puerto Rico over Christmas….hope you enjoyed your holidays!

Happy New Year, Lois in Illinois – I’m thrilled to see you love your Paula Abdul necklace!  All of the hosts enjoyed working with Paula….she’s a very sweet person (and very funny!).   You (and “granny”) asked my about the Chocolate Diamond Flower Ring – The designer I worked on for this ring (from Italy) would not be happy if we “copied” it in Absolute….however, I will work on something similar in Absolute for those of you who love the look. You also asked about ideas for wearing white denim “pumps” – they sound very cute for summer and would look great with other colors of denim (skirts, capris, and white jeans would  be adorable).  Finally, to answer your question about the red knit jacket (I call it the Natalie Jacket because our gorgeous model, Natalie owns this one).  I will talk to my buyer, Joanna, to see if we can bring in something similar (this particular style has been retired).  I have a new collection of My Fave Fashion coming in February!

Hello Ruth in the Lone Star State - Wow – 400 rings, I think you have me beat!  I hope you have some of our ring boxes, as they would surely come in handy for you.  I think your suggestion for Joy Mangano is a good one…I will pass on your feedback about moving the controls higher on the clothes dryer for easier access.

Hi Joan in Georgia!  You’re a girl after my own heart – I  love both Diana Venezia and Deb Guyot designs!  Diana will be here for our January Silver Gallery with some new gorgeous pieces – the show is January 18 (Sunday) at 1:00 pm – Hope you can watch!

Constance in NY – Nice to hear from you!  The necklace your asking about is part of a new collection I’m debuting on Jan. 18 called “Somchintana”…It means Dreams Come True.  We will be offering the flower necklace you are asking about in several different gemstone choices with matching earrings and bracelets.  The pieces are completely made by hand in the US (Florida).  I’ve traveled to the designer’s studio and have had the pleasure to collaborate with a wonderful team of artisans.  This is a stunning collection, and I look forward to introducing the pieces on the 18th.

Hello to “your fan” in Illinois - Thank you for your message….and you’re correct – my family loves art!  My husband has been involved in the art business for many years – he used to own a gallery and is a collector and is a big supporter of the Arts.  My oldest son, Carlos, is a Graduate Gemologist and metal smith….he leaves for Florence, Italy this spring where he will study jewelry design. Finally, my youngest son, TJ, is a senior in college (up in your neck of the woods, Chicago) and he’s an Art History Major and Creative Writing Minor.  I guess “love for the arts” is in the genes!

Greetings Bev in Texas!  Sorry to hear about your Jay King pendant.  If you forward me your email, I will get your info to Jay’s buyer to see if it can be repaired.

Malissa in “The Golden State” of California” – Hi!  You asked about the Prestige boxes – Yes, we are working on an earring box and it will debut sometime before summer.  The other boxes are all on order to stay tuned….they’ll be back soon!

Top of the Mornin’ to Ya, Lorrayne in PA -  I’ve never been to Ireland, but hope to get there one day.  Wishing you the Luck of the Irish for the New Year!

Barbara in Minnesota – I’m so happy you love your CL Smokey Quartz pendant (it’s a beauty).   Enjoy your “hot chocolate” in chilly Minnesota!

Hi Amber in Virginia - Sorry you missed the ruby ring…..I will check with my buyer, Sandy, to see if we can reorder it.

Lorie in Massachusetts – Sorry you missed 386-610, the Tuscan heart pendant.  I will forward your request to bring this one back to our buyer.  Take care :)

Hello to Rita in the Land of 10,000 Lakes -  The watch you’re asking about was a Christmas gift from my husband….I love the duel time zone design.  I will show it to my buyer to see if we can bring in something similar.  Stay tuned!

Hi Pam in Ohio – Happy New Year!  You asked about my nails…First, I have a great nail tech, Judy.  I wear acrylics (she applies the acrylic over my natural nail - she avoids using the fake tips).  She tries to keep the acrylic very thin for a more natural look.  She uses the natural acrylic color and then airbrushes the tips for an ”American” manicure (unlike the bright white tips of a French manicure).  She finishes with a coat of OPI “Sweetheart” or a similar pale pink color.  Hope this helps!

Beta in Ohio – Happy 2009!  You made my morning – thanks for your nice message….All my best for the New Year :)

Hello Faria in NJ -Yes, I received your photos…the jewelry you make is lovely.  As you know, HSN works directly with manufacturers and we buy in volume, so I’m afraid it would be difficult to try to make jewelry for TV (I believe you told me in your letter that you don’t have the capability to make your jewelry in volume).  I will show your pieces to our fashion jewelry buyer to see if she has any ideas.  Take care.

Let me know what’s on your mind….I love hearing from you!

Fondly,
Colleen
